Help Gmail Notification Timing

On average, how long should it take before you get notified of a received email on gmail? It's so random for me. My sync setting is set to sync automatically, but sometimes it could be hours before an email I send to my gmail shows up on my phone. If I go into the actual gmail app and click refresh, the email will show up immediately, but I shouldn't have to do this, correct? Shouldn't gmail emails show up immediately?

HTC Sprint Hero stock 2.1

Thanks!

Go into menu, settings, manage applications and go to your gmail application. Clear cache and clear data, then reboot your phone

Thanks, but same results after trying this. I noticed that emails sent to myself from the same gmail account, show up immediately. But I'm thinking this is because the phone is awake? When I turn off screen (red button) and send email to my gmail from another phone, my phone doesn't seem to want to wake up to notify me. Know what I mean?

No, the phone going to 'sleep' should not cause any issues with syncing the gmail or any notification.

Maybe try unchecking the sync for your gmail account, reboot phone, then go back and check sync again. See if that helps

Didn't work. But thanks though, andy. I think I can live with the sporadic timing of my gmail emails coming in.

No worries, wish we could have found a solution

I guess you could always try a hard reset but then you would have to set up the phone again

Andy, not sure why, but I've been getting my gmail notifications instantly for the past couple days. Maybe It takes a day or two after doing the things you told me to do, but my gmail is flying now!

Thanks again for your help!
