The phone was in my pocket when I left my office today, and somehow NOT in my pocket when I arrived at my apartment 30 minutes later. Some lucky MTA rider is apparently now the proud owner of a completely deactived DInc with an amoled screen. ::sigh::

And I had to spend more than an hour at the Verizon store across the street from my apartment convincing them that "NO - I did NOT cancel my insurance a month ago - that would be YOUR fault" (note: I really didn't cancel my insurance - it was a screw up on VZW's part) and that they should replace the phone tonight instead of making we wait till Monday. Thank god for super friendly CSR Steve who convinced Asurion to let me get an emergency replacement phone tonight, even if it does have an SLCD screen.

Anyway, yeah, boo to the universe. I miss my phone... :(

Now that you have a new phone, when you find your original Inc. in your work desk drawer tomorrow you can still part it out on ebay to make some $$$. Good luck.

Would that it be that easy. :(

Actually went straight back to work when I noticed it was gone - not there. Checked my desk, the hallway, the elevator, the lobby, and with security. Not there at all. Came back home, emptied my bag out onto the kitchen table. Not there. Emptied coat (again - including the lining, in case it magically transported from my pocket into the lining). Not there.

Nope - phone is truly gone. :(

Get lookout. It has low jack! Sorry to hear about you loss. :'(

This. You can find your phone using GPS and any wifi it is connected to. Had a buddy who had his phone stolen and was able to track it to a coffee shop nearby. Went there and called it standing in the middle of the shop. It rang with his unique ringtone, at which point a young gentleman glanced at the display and then silenced it. Called the police and retrieved his phone.

You say they replaced your Dinc with an SLCD one? Verizons policy is to replace your phone with the same screen you had previously. You should have gotten an amoled Dinc.

Read the last bulletin:

Read the last bulletin

Yeah, I've read that bulletin before (actually, super helpful VSW person showed me it, too, and the "insider" VZW info on the difference between the two screens). However:

VZW had somehow turned off my insurance on September 2nd. Super-helfpul CSR recognized that it was a mistake and turned it back on with comments on my acct, but we were concerned that if I called today, without a CSR to support, my request for a phone would be denied b/c it looks like I started up the insurance after I lost the phone.

If I called Asurion today, and they agreed to replace the phone (which, again, would have been iffy), yes, they would have mailed me a CLN replacement w/ an amoled screen. BUT that means I wouldn't have rec'd the phone until Monday, most likely, and I'm actually travelling this weekend, starting today. So that option was largely thrown out.

In store, the CSR guy was able to convince the emergency Asurion people that I needed a phone right away. That meant that he could give me a phone from in-store, and I could walk out with it. But that also means that I got an SLCD screen, because that's all VZW is producing (and most likely all they'll be producing in the future).

All that being said, apparently if a Samaritan finds the phone on the train and turns it in to a VZW store in the next 7 days, I can get that phone back, and return this new one.

Best I could do in the situation.

I'm just grumbly because I lost my phone...

ehh, taskers GPS locate profile is far more comprehensive.

For me, when I text (from any number), "Hey DINC, Where are you?" it will silently turn on GPS, wait a given amount of minutes (2 for me) to aquire location, grab the location as a URL and text back to most recent sender.

Lookout does have that siren thing which is cool. But again, possible with tasker too

Also, IncDoes Sense has HTC Hub which allows you to locate via remote GPS toggle, lock phone, display message (like give me my f**king phone back) and call a number to return phone.

Is this tasker profile post ed anywhere. I downloaded tasker some time ago with good intentions but just never devoted any time to learning it.

My wife dropped her 1 week old Droid X in a store at the mall. We knew where she must have dropped it. We called the store told them where we thought it was, and they said nope can't find it.

Called back around closing time and asked if they would check again while I called it... Thankfully they found it and we got it back the next day...

I must be behind the times. We downloaded mobile defense back in the spring but they said you can't turn on GPS remotely unless rooted. Is Tasker the same or can you now do this? What is "IncDoes Sense"?

Thanks :)

The OP may have lost his Dinc but I nearly gave mine away Friday night. Just this Friday night the honey and I were watching some DVD's, dark outside but time to take the dog out. She yells into me to come out. When I get outside there is a young teenage male there (about 13-14) talking with her. She tells me he is looking to use a phone, I look at him and he appears a bit shaken like something happened so I figure I'll just let him use my cell rather then let him in my house. I hand him my Dinc, he dials and starts a conversation with some girl as he is talking he is walking away with my phone so now I'm following him for half a block to get my phone back while he is fighting with his girlfriend. Oh well, glad I didn't have to use assurion!

And now I can confirm my trepidation about receiving an SLCD replacement.

I got my original Incredible back in April (AMOLED); got this one Friday (SLCD). For some odd reason, I assumed the one that my husband rec'd last month was SLCD, too.

Apparently not. I just did a quick comparison between the two, and WOW. Seeing the difference IRL is a lot different than seeing the difference through someone else's screen shots. The colors really are noticeably more vibrant (like everyone says, the black is REALLY black on AMOLED), and the contrast is a lot better, too.

Now I REALLY miss my phone. :(
