Would anyone else be angry if...

Verizon gets the passion in january? I know i would. 1ghz prosessor would be awesome. I would be bery upset knowing they hyped up the droid soooo much, knowing many many people like myself who wanted a high powered android device would show up on launch day to buy it, and also knowing they were going to be releasing a truly awesomely powerful android phone within 2 months of the droid. Don't get me wrong, I love my droid, its a great phone. But i would trade my physical keyboard i never use for a 1ghz processor in a heartbeat.

Nope.

One thing I am used to with technology. The day after you purchase, you are behind the times. I bought the fastest dual core laptop Dell had in the summer of 2008. One week later they had quad cores.

No biggie - just enjoy the Droid!

That's right. If I were to get angry with that then I would have to get angry with every piece of electronics equipment with a processor that I ever bought. Besides, from the rumors that I have read, the Passion is likely to be somewhat bigger and heavier than the Droid, or have less battery life. With a 1 GHz processor, it will take more power. If it has the slightly bigger screen then it will take more power and require a bigger case. Both will require a bigger and heavier battery or less battery life. I am very happy with my Droid and will not likely look to upgrade until new every 2 in 20 months. The Droid does what I want it to do, so why would I get upset just because something new does more. There are far more important things in life than the latest PDA phone.

Not even close. It's ugly and it doesn't have a physical keyboard. Plus, I already know that the Droid has excellent battery life and a sweet screen. I have no idea if the Passion would have the same quality.

Not to mention, the Snapdragon processor will likely not be that much faster in practice. I know they have used it another phone overseas and they had to underclock it due to the tremendous drain on the battery that comes with such a high speed. It is highly likely that it will also be underclocked on the Passion for the same reason. I also haven't heard whether or not there is even a dedicated GPU, which the Droid has. This may make a noticeable difference in displaying certain things (Flash, perhaps).

You have to consider, Motorola knows what else is out there, and it's doubtful that their flagship Android phone would be designed in such a way that a phone releasing only a few months later would be leaps and bounds ahead of it. The Passion may be a bit faster, but I think the hype about the Snapdragon is getting way ahead of itself.

Would have been. Was waiting for that, and got this. Glad now, tbh.
Not sure verizon will get that phone, and the network was one of the major pluses coming from iphone. Also I thought I wouldn't use the keyboard, but I do, often.

And its completely necessary for the SNES emulator -- the best and only way to pass the time on the droid aside from movies (since our android games suck). Last, I've read rumblings of dissapointment from the snapdragon. Its supposed to be a bit faster, but not 200%, as the ghz makes it seem. I thought I remembered someone saying 9% or something?

Not worth purchasing a whole new device imho. If its really OLED, though, that might change something... or just make it more tempting. I'll be almost a third through my 1 year contract (10 month upgrade) by the time it comes out though so won't matter much.

When I initially bought the Droid, I was going to return it and wait on the Passion, but then realized that there is going to be some other phone a few months after that and after that and so on...

One real big thing that the Droid has going for it is the number of units sold. The more units that are sold the more developers are going to cater to that phone in particular.

Faster processor usually results in lesser battery life. Not to mention that the 3430 has some very good graphics acceleration and its implemented very well in the DROID. But hey if I have to have it I can get one on one of my other lines' upgrades and sell the Droid for a decent price... Meh 5hit happens..

Angry? No. That would be sad.

No one knows if the "Passion" is going to be good. I haven't seen any reviews on it, so until I do, I will consider it just another phone.

We have a great phone here. Eventually we'll be replaced by another great phone, either 1 month from now or 1 year from now. Enjoy what you have while you have it.

You say your Droid is a great phone. Well, there ya go. No need to be angry.

No, because if I owned the company I would do the exact same thing. As hard as it may be to hear, its business and business is about making money. Any inconveniences you may suffer as a result of decisions made at the top are not taken into consideration when decisions are being made in the boardroom.

Besides, I am not getting your rationale. Should Honda postpone the release of their 2010 models because they know the 2011's will be so much better?

Thus far, I love my Droid and don't have any problems with speed (or lack thereof), sluggishness, lag, etc. 1GHZ may be a lot on paper but my Droid is plenty fast!

TBH, in honesty, the only real reason I'd be jealous was if it had their animated clock like on the HTC (edit: HD2). That thing looks amazing, and for some reason the developer of beautiful widgets claims Android doesn't allow animated widgets...

The rest of the passion I can replace with market/my own apps.

I had read somewhere today (can't find link now) that it would have an amoled, which would deff help battery life, one of my chief issues with the droid. Also the physical keyboard is not a big deal for me. I have it now, and i have typed maybe 3 to 5 texts/emails with it since i bought my droid on launch day. I was just curious if i was in the minority or if others felt as i did.

And btw, square, this is not in the wrong forum. This post is not primarily about the passion as a phone, it is about the opinion of current droid owners. Not owners of android phones in general, or people who want the passion in general. It is specifically to owners of the Motorola Droid (which i am) asking their opinion.

I do have problems with speed on my droid. I get lots of forced closes (especially on the alarm clock, which is incredibly inconvinient), my home take forever to load, emails take forever to load. This is primarily base on comparisons from the BB curve i came from.

And no, honda shouldn't delay 2010's knowing 2011's are going to be much better. What they shouldn't due is launch an add campain based around the civic having excellent gas milage then 4 months later release a civic with a 25% increase in gas milage. This would cause customers to feel lied to. And brand loyalty is very important for car manufacturers and cell phone carriers. Verizon could have taken a different angel with its marketing than how powerful and capable the droid is.

Again, this is all contingent on the passion actually coming to verizon in the next month or so. If it is another 2+ months, i wouldn't be irritated at all, cause that is just the flow of technology. Your stuff will eventually be outdated. I just would be angry if verizons flagship phone only stays the flagship for 2 months. If i buy the best thing a network has to offer THE DAY IT COMES OUT i don't expect them to be offering something better in a mere 2 months.

EDIT: summary for those who don't want to read a long post, I wouldn't be mad that my phone was no longer the best verizon offered, it would be that my phone was only the best for 2 months before something better came along.

Beautiful Widgets is wrong. Home++ has a animated widget on the market.

wrong forum.

how is this the wrong forum? It's asking specifically droid users if theyd be upset if the passion comes out in January. Absolutely the correct forum as we are all Droid users, and thats who the question is aimed at.

Also Square, I have to say, Ive been seeing your posts on a lot of threads lately, and for the most part they are either sarcastic, or completely irrelevant and said for no reason. If you don't like a topic, don't post please!

Yeah I saw this, but Home++ supposedly makes this possible. I wish Beautiful Widgets guy would make one for it, but until Home++ becomes more popular I don't see major development/standards being set for it. I have the same hunch as you too, though, don't see why it wouldn't work.

Thinking about trying Home++ just to support it as well. Hear its very stable and nice features (and would like to see animated widgets), but I will miss GDE's cube...

if you don't like my posts, don't read them. :)

hasn't the droid vs. passion, (will you or won't you return your droid to get the "passion") topic been beaten to death? almost covered as much as the droid vs iphone debate.

I fully understand your point but my point is IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME! <Not hollering at you> Sure, four months may be absurd but had a new model came out a year later folks (and I assume you) would still be upset. For your comment above I will respond with "Toyota Prius". <enough said!> ;-)

Yesterday my buddy was just telling me about how golf membership at a club near his house has been $10k for as long as he can remember. BUT two months ago the club decided to drop the price to $1k. How do you think folks who paid the $10k as recently as a few months ago feel?

All in all, I don't disagree with you to a certain extent but IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME! ;)

I mean it's not really the fact of liking or disliking, its the fact their irrelevant and often rude. I certainly don't waste a ton of time reading them as they are usually extremely short, it's the fact they're popping up everywhere, over time, that just adds to even more time reading useless unhelpful stuff.

And yeah absolutely, the debate has been happening for a long time, and sure the OP could have used the search function to find some information while sifting through forums, but this is also a forum for helping people and giving opinions, and clearly since he himself was worried about this, Im sure he just wanted to air out his thoughts and see what others were thinking.

Yes, three weeks ago I checked forums about droid vs passion, but seeing his post at the top brought it back into my mind and made me think about exactly what I want to do as well, so theres always a benefit for someone. If there isn't a benefit for you, don't read it! Its supposed to be a community that collaborates for constructive criticism and help making decisions and getting the best out of our devices. At the very least instead of posting Wrong forum, maybe post a very few links to places where the topic has been covered and say "check here and next time use the search button." That way, he'll go there, and learn to search in the future.

I know it happens all the time, but that doesn't mean it doesn't upset us. And me personally, if it had been a year, i may be a little disappointed, but i would not be upset with the company.

I get your point and I am not trying to give you a hard time. I guess I am so use to being railroaded by BIG BUSINESS that I have lowered the bar.

Here is something else for you to chew on....... Why would a cell phone manufacturer release a phone only to release an update 1 month later. I have yet to understand this with various platforms such as Palm Pre, Apple, HTC, Samsung, etc. Why not wait a month, test the update in house, and then release the phone??? Hmmmmmm

I get your point to. I have been railroaded by big business too many times too, i gues that is why i would be mad. I paid the ETF on two lines to leave sprint for verizon because of how terrible sprint customer service treats people, so i guess i would just be very upset to kinda get screwed again (though to an admitidly lesser degree this time). I think they release a phone and then an update a month later because even with in house testing there will be issues you won't find that will be found withing days with 100,000+ people using the the phone. releasing the phone, after one weekend selling 100k of the phones you get close to 1.2 million hours of use time in a few days, assuming the average person uses the phone for about 6 hours out of the day (geting used to it, downloading apps, etc.) the first two days they own it. even if they had someone testing it 15 hours a day, every day for 30 days prior to launch, that is only 450 hours, even if you multiply that by a hundred or so phones, you are still just not getting nearly the amount of use out of the phones as once they are released.
