So I'm rooted now and about ready to do my 1st theme...DroidBlackGlassX DeOdexEERR.

Is there a way to back up my stock LP+ set up so If I don't like the Black Glass and can revert back? Or want my LP+ setup but only with a black bar? I thought I could with bootstrap, but I think I'm wrong...also thought I could with Ti Backup...but again, I think that's only for apps.

Use the sticky in this forum. It is koush's bootstrapper custom recovery. Ita in market for $2 and is called droid x bootstrap I believe. Download from his site for free.

I have it one of the 1st things I downloaded after rooting, I must not know how to use it cause it's not finding the backup I make with it in recovery.

Id like to chime in.

How exactly do you perform a backup with this app prior to deodexing or installing a theme?

Yes, this ^

The same way as you would after deodexing and theming. ; )

Just click backup in droid x bootstrap. Done. Reboots and backup takes a few minutes prior to loading android.

I've never tried it yet, thanks. :)

Now if I have apps "frozen" with TIBU, should I "defrost" them prior to a backup? Or will it backup everything regardless and then restore everything should something get hosed?

So if you downloaded it from his website, it may say it is a zip file. Just delete the ".zip" and you should be left with a ".apk". You can install that using your stock file explorer.

It's been installed, but...

I go into Droid X Bootstapper and click Bootstrap Recovery>>>Success
I go to Reboot Recovery, scroll to backup and restore, click, scroll to Restore, click and I get
"ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.6
Couldn't open directory.
No files found."

Just did a backup. How do I know if it backed up everything correctly?
see below

"ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.6

both of you should confirm that the file is here:
using ASTRO file manager (from market) check by going to /mnt/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/YYYY-MM-DD.HH.MM.SS (date info)
that is the file.

I've tried many times to back up...still not there. Uninstalled and reinstalled bootstrap, backed up, still not there. What the hell am I missing? What is Clockwork? Some other app, the folder that's created by bootstrap, or a folder I need to create myself?

I am clicking "Bootstrap Recovery" that is correct to create the backup, right?

Forget it, I'm a ****ing idiot...You have to create the file from the reboot/recovery screen, not the app in the app drawer. Or should I be able to backup from the app it's self?

AFAIK, you need to do it from the recovery screen bro. That's what I did. I think the app in the drawer is just the vehicle to get you to the right place, and then perform those functions.

Give it a shot and report back, I'm curious now.

I'm all backed up now, it's all there...from the recovery screen of course, not the app.

So what exactly is the "Bootstrap Recovery" button doing in the app? I click it, says something about superuser rights, then a popup box that says "success", what does that mean?

Now to apply a theme, black glass is waiting on the SD card...here goes nothing!
I'm probably one of those guys the "if you don't know what you are doing..." warning applies to. :D

Awesome brother congrats!

Let me know how you fare with black glass. Im thinking about it, but would like to just deodex and then maybe go with Nextheme, but not sure as of yet. Or might just go with the black bar mod.

Cheers!

Congrats. Glad it worked out. The success message means that you've successfully succeeded. It may mean something else, but as far as I know, that's the.meaning.
Moving forward, get a rom or two under your belt using rom manager(pretty easy to use). Theme away. Download drocap2 and post your screens up on the post your screens board (all us cool nerds know how to party ).
And remember, at this point you can't truely brick your phone. There is always a way back.

Installed the theme... this is so cool, a whole new world, why the hell did I wait 3 months to start jumping into this?

Trooper, thanks for your help, black glass is sweet, doesn't change a whole hell of a lot, just makes things black that should've been in the 1st place IMO. Everything I had before I still have, apps, their locations, all my home screens and set ups, widget locker, and wallpapers...all there, all the same...just turns the lighter stock things to a dark theme and adds some color and upgrades to the icons. I guess that was my biggest worry about themeing...losing what I had set up and the locations, but that's not the way it works I guess. Another nice thing about the black glass, is they have another zip that takes you back to stock but keep you deodexed so you can install other themes. Try it, you won't be disappointed. From my research, it's on of the easiest to start with. Oh, and BTW the droid eye is there for like 5 to 10 min when you reboot after applying the theme, so stay patient. I had the batter door pulled and was ready to pull the batt when the phone vibrated and finished the boot. :D

Cash, thanks for your help. I'll get rom manager and start researching roms a bit...same as I did with the rooting and themeing before I jumped in. I've got drocap2, one of the 1st installed after root. Pics are coming in a minute or 2. And brick, I think I was one of the 1st to download the 2.2 sbf the other night. got it covered. ;)

Thanks again guys and thanks for being patient with me.

from what I've read and understand of the process, when you click "boostrap recovery" it generates a line of code on the phone that tells the phone next time its rebooted to go into recovery instead of booting up like normal. so it kinda hijacks the boot process during boot-up. I believe if you were to just press reboot recovery without pressing bootstrap recovery first, it would just reboot the phone not boot it into recovery (I may be wrong about the last part but im about 98% sure with the first part on how it works)
