Head/Ear Phones

Anyone come across a good set of ear phones with inline controls? almost exactly like the iphone functionality. I have tried bluetooth cans, I have the motorola s9 (or 9s), I have the verizon ones that have the CALL control, but none of these quite do it. I couldnt get the BT cans to work, volume, but not skip track. Same with the verizon ear buds. So I am looking for a set of ear buds with volume up and down, track forward and track skip, as well as all the in phone functionality, which I guess is really just a mic Anyone have a solution?

Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you but I'm curious as to what you think of the s9s if you'd be so kind Are they comfortable? Clear/loud? Heavy?

no they are fine, I could just only get them to work with the volume and calls. The playback keys on the headphones just beeped at me. They arent uncomfortable tho.

No they don't have any controls on them. In fact, I had a pair and sold them. The base was TOO over powering and I found it sorta annoying

Mine do pause/play, answer/ignore call, ff/rw, skip forward/back...

And the sound quality bests my old Shure's AFAIK. (Except I'm uncertain on the mids, though I was listening to Tea for the Tillerman... so). They're a bit pricier than the s9s, but if you like sound they're great.

I picked up my girlfriend's little brother's LG HBS-200 (bluetooth headset) the other day, just to try them out and have some music playing while I shoveled the driveway... They weren't too comfortable, but that could've been because of the hat I had on, pushing down on them, but all the buttons worked for audio. They have their own volume, next/previous track, play/pause. I didn't try to use them for calls, but I think I hit the call button by mistake a couple times and called my voicemail once, so I guess it works for that, too. An older option, I guess, but they did work

I was having the same exact trouble finding a good pair of headphones for this phone. Don't get the ones that Shure sells for the iPhone as it will not work for the droid. I actually got the S9-HD from motorola and I have to say I am thoroughly impressed. The sound quality is really good (in HD mode) and the battery life is good. I will say that when I'm in a high population area (walking in manhattan) the sound gets choppy. But...I like how I can play/pause...skip tracks..answer calls...and adjust volume all on the headset. The only thing you can't really do is make a call using voice command. The only way you can make a call with it without removing the phone from your pocket is to hold down the phone button and it will dial the last person who you called.

I would say overall I've had a great experience with this BT headset and on amazon at around 50 bucks its a great deal.

I use the Plantronics Voyager 855 they're discontinued but you can still get them from Amazon.com for about $45.

Same thing with others, I can't get it to make voice calls with it, but it does play, pause, previous, next, answer, end... I've used it with my Touch Pro and MacBook Pro. And now my Droid.

OK cool, a friend of mine has these for his iphone and I thought they were pretty slick, but I wasnt sure if they could control the playback as I wanted. So you are confirming that they DO work to forwards/reverse/etc tracks on the droid?

No offense to can owners, but I mostly use this function in my office and it seems that earbuds are more accepted than having a big headset on.

just got myself a set of the motomokr s305s for the droid. they're bluetooth and do all of these things, except of course no call button for voice dialing, but that will come eventually. for 30 bucks they're AWESOME. sound quality is excellent as far as my ears can tell. i listen to my sennheisser 595s and can notice some difference, but it's minimal.

No offense to can owners, but I mostly use this function in my office and it seems that earbuds are more accepted than having a big headset on.

• It comes with three sizes for the ear buds (I lost some and bought a bag full of them from eBay for $2 shipped).
• The main part of the device can go in either ear. You can have the headset part in the ear facing away from people so they don't think you're one of those people who wear Bluetooth headsets all day long.
• The second ear bud has the over the ear bracket that is too big for my ear, nothing you can do about that because that is the part that goes into the main part. You can plug it in for left or right use.
• The main button with the light around it is the press and hold for power on/off. If it is off and you hold it after the start up sound it beeps and flashes to pair it with '0000'. This also would be how to make voice calls, but it doesn't seem to work with the Motorola Droid. Tapping it can answer or end a call.
• The single button on the side is the pause button with tap and stop with hold.
• Tapping the see-saw button is to control the volume, up/down, on the device only, not the phone. Holding either one will skip next or previous. Previous goes to the previous song, not the beginning of the song you are currently on.
• Sliding the boom out can take a call. Sliding it back in ends the call.
• The cable is braided with some sort of cloth, not plastic.
• I think it came with different sized brackets (I may have discarded them with the packaging) if you want to use it only for phone or mono. I use it without and kind of wished that when you used it for stereo it didn't have the bracket.
• Since they are in the ear, they work pretty good as isolation ear buds.
• Also comes with leather drawstring bag and a wall-only charger to Micro USB . It won't charge the phone, but the phone's charger can charger the headset.
• Using it in mono for music sucks. Just like plugging composite cables into a mono TV or whatever, it only works with one side.
• The sound quality to me is good, not as nice as my V-Moda Vibes or Klipsch wired in-ear headphones which provides better bass, but worth it to not have a wire from the phone to my ears and walk to the break room, printer/copier.
• There is a Bluetooth button on the phone screen that will toggle the use of the headset on or off.
• Because there are several different volume settings for the Droid (Ringer, Navigation, Media...) you will hear everything through the headset. Like taking a call while using navigation and coming to a turn, it can drown out the phone conversation. I'll have to look for something smart that will change settings when using Bluetooth.
• People say the call sounds better with the Voyager over the phone, probably because of the DSP, AudioIQ.
• When I walk around the office, I usually put the headset portion in my shirt pocket and leave the smaller part in my ear.

If you have more questions, let me know and I will try to answer. I didn't realize how much time I spent doing this, but I did press each button before I wrote each part just to make sure it works like that.

Plantronics has a newer version, but it is bulkier behind each ear. They're exactly the same as Altec Lansing. They are both called Backbeat 906 and there is a 903 also. These are also way more than the Voyager 855. Voyager 855 has been discontinued for these.

On the positive, these are pretty good sounding phones. Almost equal to my Sennheisers that I had been using with an old iPod. But.... the ends of the headphone are pretty heavy (made of some sort of metal) so I found that the slightest movement of my head, fiddling with the mic button, etc would dislodge them from my ears. Second, of the half dozen or so earbud pieces that they enclose with the headphones, I couldn't find one that really felt secure and comfortable at the same time. Last, the way that you hang these over your head (Zagg calls hangin tight) would not work for me on a crowded subway with a bag (too much fiddling to do). Although it probably would be OK for student.

Oh, BTW, the inline controls are compatible with the Droid, volume control, play/pause of music tracks, and the button to pick up incoming calls or to end a call. All of that worked fine.

With my Tilt, I had a pair of S9s. I liked them a lot, except it was a bit staticy and the talk quality wasn't the best.

I want to buy another pair (took the S9s back) so I like this thread.
