I received my Seidio Active X case yesterday. This is my first experience with a Seidio product and the case seems to be very high quality.

Protection: I would rate the protection on this very high. The biggest reason people get cases is to protect the phone and this case sure feels like it will do the job. It's a two piece case so you get two layers of protection. The first layer is a silicone layer however it feels more substantial than the regular silicone cases. The second layer is a hard plastic which covers the back and most importantly the corners of the phone. That is where you would most likely incur a lot of damage should you drop the phone.

Looks/aesthetics: I was skeptical as I like the look of this phone naked however this case has some style to it. It looks contemporary and adds a lot to the look of the phone. It also feels good in your hands. It's also not bulky which I was afraid of.

Function: I was able to use every function on the phone fine. The volume rocker, camera button and sleep button are covered by the silicone case however the buttons are easy to use and the silicone has raised bumps where the buttons are so you can feel them easily.

The bad: This case is not perfect, while it does not get stuck in your pocket like traditional silicone (that is a good thing) it does attract a fair amount of lint so I found myself wiping it off a lot. Also it does not fit in the car dock which I use. I made some mods to my dock to fit the Best Buy Rocketfish case, it's possible that mods could be made to fit this although I haven't played with that yet. The case is easy enough to take off if I need to use the dock. I don't use it daily so it's not a deal breaker for me.

Would I recommend this case? Yes. Overall it's a high quality, substantial, good looking protective case.

I'm returning my Active X tomorrow. The rubber finish is coming off of the silicon leaving it looking cheap and like there is grease on it constantly. Also, this thing gets stuck in my pocket more often than not. Then again, I wear skinnier jeans so that is one main reason, but it's such a hassle, but that really isn't the reason I'm returning it.

The case does look pretty awesome, but the fact is that after less than a week of use, it'll start to look extremely cheap and just dreadful.

That's 0/2 for Seidio cases. :(

I don't know where to turn to now. :(

I did really love the case though. If you are able to remove it from your pocket easily and can stand the loss of finish on it, then you should still get it. The design is awesome. It didn't add much bulk, but after having it on for 4 days and finally taking it off, you realize how amazingly thin your X really is and how much bulk it truly adds.

For now, I'm going naked again. Thanks Seidio. Maybe my next phone, I'll turn to you.

Shamrock,

Can you please elaborate on what you mean by the rubber finish is coming off?

Do you mean like the harder plastic shell is peeling? Cuz I wouldn't see silicone having a "finish"....
The silicone has the same rubber finish as the hard shell. The silicone's finish is rubbing off and making it look glossy and greasy and just tacky. This was after 5 days of use.

Can you tell me how easy it is to take the whole case on and off? I use a docking station at night and I need a case I can take on and off daily that won't eventually break. I was doing this with the Bodyglove case but of course it finally broke. Thanks

It's not hard but if you are going to do it daily it may be a pain and then you have the issue of if it's going to hold up over time. I don't take mine off every day, just when I want to use the car dock which is not daily for me.

So far after a week mine is holding up well. On the hard shell part there seemed to be some kind of clear film that is peeling off but it looks fine once that film is off.

If you want this case but you use the car dock quite a bit I would suggest getting the universal car mount. I use it on my bike and it hold it perfectly. So if you can imagine the treatment it must go through on a motorcycle that should tell you it should hold up to anything you could throw at it in a car. And you can get it for under $10 bucks shipped online.

So this thing looks identical to the Rugged case, is the only difference that this case does not have a Surface case under the skin? That's what it looks like from here.
