Help Data Plan and 3g mobile hotspot

1. I am currently using unlimited data plan,
and I am wondering if Using mobile Hotspot and GPS charges me any extra cost.


2. [Since Its not me who pay for my phonebill, so I dont know exactly what plan I am using, but as I checked it on "My Verizon App", It comes out 28897kb/ULMT. It is saying that I am using unlimited data plan. right???]

You have to have the 29.99 unlimited data plan to use the DroidX. Using google maps and wireless tethering will not add to your account. HOWEVER, using the 3g mobile hotspot is an additional fee that is like 40$ a month for 2gb of tethering. You can root your phone and get wifi tether that will use your normal data plan and that is then free wifi tether.

Btw it's only $20 a month to use the hotspot through verizon. But the work around above does let you do it for free. There is a question of scruples surrounding it, but it does indeed work.

Thanks, I guess I will have to ask verizon to add tethering . I heard its up to $30 is that true? or is it still $20?

2gb just for 3g mobile hotspot or 2gb for ur droid x connecting on its own 2 3g?

2gb for $20 is just the 3g hotspot, on top of the $29 they charge for data.

does verizon charge for overages if you go over 2gb or 5gb? and with the 3g mobile hotspot, does your data usage increase to 7gb? is there a separate counter for 2gb data spot that verizon keeps track of online and display it on your my verizon?

i can't say i advocate encouraging folks to violate verizon's ToS, and steal this service. having mobile internet for your computer is well worth $20 to a lot of people, and not worth it at all for others.

but, people complain about the phone being locked down, and complain about the possible loss of unlimited data, but then they steal these services and wonder why service providers are doing away with unlt'd, and throttling speeds after a certain amount.

dont get me wrong, i dont mean to flame. truth be told, i've hacked the 3g hotspot so it'll work without turning the radio off and on, but i still dont agree with it.

i say, if you're going to tether without paying verizon for it, dont use their app to do it. use pda net, or root and use wireless tether or barnacle.

3g mobile hotspot plan allows for 2GB. and yes, they charge for overages. i am not positive on the amount, but i think it's around $.05/mb.
and yes, there is a separate counter on myverizon for the hotspot so you can track it.

Really? Only five cents?!? I thought it would be more like 50 cents like they charge for the 5gb data plans for usb modems

it doesnt sound like much, but that's still > $50/GB.
