I bought an application on Saturday through the Android market and it corrupted my email. I had to uninstall it and it cost $20
I am waiting to hear from the developer. I spoke to Verizon and Motorola and neither would take responsibility for this. They said that even though the application was purchased through their marketplace, they bear no responsibility to make sure any given application is compatible with their phones. Does anyone know a way around this? How can you buy any apps with confidence?

First I read the reviews. I will rarely pay for an application unless it has great reviews or I have heard about it on here.

Second a lot of the paid apps have a free version that I would try out first, if they do not I will do a lot more looking to see what the reviews are and if other with the X say it works.

Lastly if you return an app within 24 hours you will get a refund on this one time. (Meaning if you go back in to get it, you can't get a refund a second time). So I make sure to try it out right after I buy it and if it will not work return it right away.

Refunds aren't handled by Verizon or Motorola. And its not "Their" market, its google's. Verizon and motorola have absolutely nothing to do with it. Go back to the market and find the app again. Open it up and instead of downloading it again, scroll down and hit the link to the developers page. You should, from there, be able to find some sort of contact info for the dev and let him know whats what.

the app I bought was Ibird Pro. I did read reviews of it and did not find anyone who had a problem. It corrupted my comcast email address. Verizon told me to uninstall both the app and my email and then reinstall my email which I did and now everything is fine.
I am waiting to hear from the developer
also, I tried to install it once and it failed so I canceled it, when I bought it again, obviously at that point I could not get a refund

It corrupted your email?

I seriously doubt the app corrupted your email. Might be something that happened in the process of the install or something but that's more likely to be a system problem than an app problem. How do you know it corrupted your email? What does "corrupting your email" mean - what were the symptoms? Do you only store messages on your phone and delete them from the server? If not, why can't you just re-download from the server?

I have iBird Pro and have a Gmail account, a POP3 account, and a corporate IMAP account on my phone. None were corrupted.

Also, it sounds like you were being impatient. You don't have to get a refund for what you bought (hence destroying your ability to get another refund) just for a failed download. Wait for the purchase to go through and you can download it as many times as you want in the 24 hour trial period.

Corrupted my email was a phrase that Verizon used. Also, what happened after I bought Ibird Pro was that I was only getting my comcast email from two years ago. Even if I deleted it, it came back. And I was not getting any new email.
Also, once the app was uninstalled, my problem disappeared. Verizon was the one who told me the issue was with the app.
I have not had any other problems with this phone

Verizon is good at doing this. I was having problems with market downloads at one point and a tier 2 tech told me that Launcher Pro was the problem and he even asked me why I would rather use it over the stock launcher since the stock one now has 7 screens. I actually laughed and rambled on for a few minutes telling him why LP is a big improvement over the stock UI.

I spoke to the developer, Mitch Waite Group, and asked for a refund. They told me to call Google. When I complained, she backed off. She then told me to install it again which I did and now it is working fine however they have now billed me twice for the same application. I am still waiting to hear from them to see how they will resolve this.

How much was the program? Good to hear it's working now, sounds like a one in a million type of glitch, which unfortunately hit you. Hopefully they'll refund you for the second purchase quickly.
