Since that thread is fairly old, I wanted to bring up the topic again. Are any developers in the process of working on a simple magnification tool? I'll click an ad every time. Promise.

The main reasons I got the Captivate are the 4" Super AMOLED and open source. I was born with a genetic retinal defect so nanotechnology can become quite difficult.

If anybody is willing and able to do this, I respectfully request it.

Thanks!

Actually, if you get the 2.2 Android keyboard (I'm running Cognition 2.2) it has something a little similar. While it doesn't magnify it does make it A LOT easier to use. So if you're in to that kind of stuff try to get the 2.2 keyboard, or just wait for froyo to come.

This. It's not magnification (I assume you're talking about the iOS feature where long-pressing and dragging on text opens a small magnification where you can see what you're selecting), but a small blue object appears at the bottom of the screen where you can press that and drag it to your desired location. It makes selection much more accurate.

Alternatively. if you use Swype, you can drag from the Swype key to the SYM key and you get a selection feature keyboard where you can press arrows to move the cursor.
