looking for an app that can see in the dark ( night vision )

Some cameras can perform something like nigh-vision boosting ISO at 12800 or 25600.
Try the highest ISO on your device and you will see that, as stated before, you can see better in the dark than your phone.
It would be quite handy, but I think that the best we can get (besides several flashlight apps) is a Sonar app available at the market.
We won't see a thing but, at least, we know something is there.

CCD imagers on digital cameras can actually see infrared light which the human eye cannot. This would include your camera built into your phone.

I haven't tried this personally but you can buy infrared LED flash lights online which when used in combination with a digital camera, camcorder, or camera on a phone should enable you to "see in the dark".

If you want to test this for free, take any old IR TV remote control (more expensive RF remotes won't do this) and aim it at your phone in camera mode and start pressing buttons. You should see a light going on and off (the IR transmitter).

Now multiply that light by getting a good IR Flashlight and you should be able to see whatever the IR Flashlight is pointed at.

This is the truth....but....

Most are TREATED to NOT pick up broad spectrum IR...

there is TONS of IR bouncing around and your Camera would not able to produce COLOR if it picked up IR.

I have Two Cannons my OLD camera has had the IR film that coats the CCD removed , I then Filter out all wave-lengths that are NOT IR..... to produce ONLY IR photos.

In daylight it take great great Photos (they look like fancy black and whites...but you can see THREW soft items like leaves mist...fog..ect...).

Like this poster is saying...I wonder how Phone Cameras are treated to deal with IR...if they are not coated...I bet something can be done in the IR spectrum....

I just tested my TMobile G2 camera with an IR remote control and I could see the IR LED light up as well as the IR reflected off of an object.

I am using Sharp IR range finders for a robotics project to detect the distance of obstacles and I can use my G2 to see where the IR beams are landing. This is very helpfull for R&D.

I bet this would be cool to use with an IR LED flash light. No need to buy $50 EyeClops binoculars!
