Root Updated Rooted phone and now stuck

I recently rooted my phone. I have not done any custome ROMs and only had it overclocked for a couple hours (it wasn't stable enough for me.) I've got a back up saved on my home computer. This morning I got notification of an OTA update from T-Mobile. I did the update and now the phone is stuck on the Samsung Vibrant screen. What do I do? Is this because I'm rooted or a problem with the update? Thanks.

Yes, with ROM manager.

Okay. I wasn't clear on that.

Actually, I'd have to agree with bootsie on this one in that a "fresh start" is usually a better way to go. Are you planning on keeping JI6 on your phone and then rooting it?

If you don't have your apps backed up in anything but the ROM you backed up you'll have to restore it or you'll lose all the data for the apps. Whatever route you take, I would suggest getting Titanium Backup (do yourself a favor and pay a few bucks for the full version) and use that to back up your apps and their data.

Once you have your apps backed up with Titanium, the best thing to do would be flash JI6 again, root it, then use Titanium to restore your apps and app data. Do NOT restore system data...chances are it will screw up the new installation of JI6.

It wasn't the rooting of the phone that made the OTA update go bad...there have been numerous reports of this happening. You were one of the unfortunate ones I'm afraid.

Be sure to ask more questions if you have any.

I do have a question: On the link above I've followed all of the steps perfectly and have my phone sitting here in download mode. I've got ODIN open and loaded the PIT file. On the instructions above, it says they only used the PIT and PDA files, but neither of those are in the ones I downloaded. What do I do?

Make sure you unzip them into the same folder. Create a folder called Odin and hen unzip them all into that folder. Then through odin you navigate to that folder for both files. I am going to go on a limb and say that you will get stuck a few times with ODIN and will have to restart the whole process again. Just stick with it and it will work

the ota did that to me yesterday, smh... thanks to google i was able to get back up and running in no time.

whats the point in sending out and update that cripples your phone and whats worse is their are people aren't aware of sites like this or what to do and will run right to the store and probably be told some b/s story about how it was their fault.
