Honest opinions on your Fascinates Battery Life!

Coming from the 2.2 Froyo Droid X, I would say my battery life with my Fascinate is moderate. I get from 7-8 hours until charge from playing my games i.e. Fruit Ninja, Angry Birds, and Mini Squadron and from heavy internet use ranging from playing videos to twittering. Like what the OP did, i'll too try to disable the sync and background data and see what happens.

I am a little confused about how to condition your battery. Is your battery fully discharged when the battery indicator light is red or when the phone powers off by itself? How often should you do this? Is it too late if you didn't do the first time you started using your phone? Also does wifi use more of your battery than connecting to a network?

Hello all. My first post.

New to Android. Just got Fascinate. Coming from Storm1.

I see under battery use what is using my battery and how long since off charger, but where do I find % battery remaining that you all are talking about?

Thanks.

You have to either get a widget or app that reads the info, or you have to root and replace the indicator, or type a special dialer command to see the actual battery percentage.

suggestions for app?
Honestly, if you search the market for the term battery you'll find dozens of battery apps not of which are better or worse than each other. They will all display the same info/percentage

I've had my phone for a week and get about 12 hours of battery life with what I'd term moderate use. I think people claiming they get more must have disabled push services and any apps that update in the background.
Very true. Those of us concerned with maxing battery life have several tricks. I personally dropped Live Wallpapers [which did as much as anything]. Brightness all the way down. Gmail and email not sync'd but manual.
Bottom Line you make your phone the way you want it to be

I think people may have unreasonable expectations. If you're getting 6 hours of "heavy" use which I take to mean browsing constantly, playing/streaming music, games...when was the last time you had a laptop last that long? Because that's basically what high-end smartphones are nowadays. The Fascinate is more powerful than a 4 year old notebook.

I could say my battery doesn't last as long as my Blackberry, but I'm also doing a lot more with the Fascinate. Browsing the web was painful and emergency-only on the BB, now I lay around all day browsing on my phone instead of getting up and using my desktop.

And if worse comes to worst, remember this isn't an Apple product - keep a spare battery, they're cheap and easy to swap.

Reading some of you guys posts I think I may need a new battery. I've had my phone for about 3 weeks and only get 6 maybe 7 hours usage before I have to recharge. I do admit that is with heavy usage especially since I work nights a lot so my screen is constantly on. I believe I conditioned my battery right. 3 cycles letting it full discharge although I'm not sure if I plug it in when the battery indicator is red or are you
supposed to let the phone turn off itself first? Anyway my main culprit is my display it always takes like 80% of my batteries life even though it is set to auto with the slider below 50 and power save mode is on. So am I doing something wrong or do I need a new battery?

Have you tried keeping the brightness all the way down? Mine is never above 0 indoors. At night/in the dark I could do with an even lower setting if there was one.

That's because you're a sissy, Saps. :D I'm running brightness at auto, live wallpapers, and I've had it unplugged for almost two days. I've still got 14% battery left. I LOVE LIVE WALLPAPERS!! YOU CAN PRY THEM FROM MY COLD DEAD FINGERS!!!

That has been my observation as well. The SF is good for 5-6 hours on heavy use. Heavy use defined as screen on, data transmitting, etc. FWIW, I put my SF in Performance mode [SetCPU] the other day and locked it in at 1200Mhz and did 25 back to back Quarant runs. That took like 40 minutes and that drained battery like 15% [in 40 minutes] Im thinking thats about as draining as it gets. But of course the more you use it the more it drains

You know as a fellow 0% brightness man myself yes at night in the dark 0% is still almost too bright depending on the circumstance. The Epic or Vibrant [I cant remember which one] they have a mod where the brightness is actually turned down like 25% extra from zero. Its possible we could get that too if the dev's port it to us. I would jump on it myself.

Not to pleased so far with my battery life. I have sent maybe a dozen texts, made a half dozen phone calls, and surfed the web for 10-15 minutes and after 7.5 hours the battery is just about dead. :( One of the reasons I bought this phone was for the battery life over the INC. I hope I didn't make the wrong choice.
There's a lot to do to improve battery life. Also it sounds like maybe this is your first week with the SF? Many of us noticed a gradual improvement from the battery over time. 7.5hours is draining too fast for that usage unless each of those phone calls was like half an hour. How is your signal strength? That is a known battery drainer, when you drop and re-acquire the 3G signal all the time

My fascinate takes like 3 hours to charge whereas my iphone 4 is a lot faster. That's a bummer.
How long have you had it/how many charges have you gone thru?
Also are you usb charging or wall/AC charging?
Wall charging after maybe 5+ charges should and dare I say will be closer to 2-2.5hours from less than 10% [obviously shorter if you battery % is higher].
USB charging takes quiet a bit longer than wall/AC charging

I'm using a wall charger and am charging from around 15% charge left. It's not a huge deal, I just recall my BlackBerry storm taking around an hour to charge.

Haven't read most of the posts in this thread so I hope I'm not too redundant. This is really my first smartphone and I'm a tech junkie...I know...what took me so long. One of the reasons it took me so long was that I live in a fairly remote area and I didn't see the cost benefit. Anyways...the battery life seems pretty decent judging from what I have read comparing it to others. I have no real comparison to make of my own since this is my first device. However, it takes forever to charge so I ended up buying the extra battery with charger. If I know I will be putting in a full day I will carry the extra battery in my laptop bag or pocket just in case. Has come in real handy more then a few times.

I came into work with 80% showing on BattStatt and watched 3 full epesodes of Bones on Vcast with a weak (1 bar) connection and finished with 27% left. I thought that was pretty dang good. I have a USB cable here at work to charge from, so it is charging now.

My old phone was an Imagio (win mobile 6.5) with a 3.7" screen, and it would have never made this same challange to its battery. Compared to my Imagio, this thing is a battery tank!

I feel the same way. On a long trip I can watch a full length movie, stream tunes, and use it as a phone/web browser, and it still gets me pretty much through the day. It really is incredible. Well, even more incredible than the Incredible that is ....

Are you AC/wall charging? Worst case should be like 3 hours. USB could take 4-5+ especially if you dont turn the screen off.

Yeah I watched a couple hours worth of Family Guy last night and it drained maybe only 30% after a couple hours but those were from my sdcard and not streamed and with earbuds rather than the speaker

Hi, This is very good thread on this topic.
I have used LG Ally for about 35 days, and looking to upgrade to Fascinate soon as it seems like very good multimedia power house. But I'm concerned of timing of official Froyo update, call quality and the battery life compared to Ally. I'm not sure if it's really step up in battery life and call quality.

I am currently getting a little more than 50% left after 12 hours of moderate to medium usage with Ally. This is with some tweaking settings for longer battery life. Do you think Fascinate would do better than that? I see here mixed reports varying from 6 hours to 20 hours per full charge.
