I was nervous at first, too. Do A LOT of reading until you are comfortable with it, then go for it. Better battery life, almost no lag, more phone features. I love my phone now. I have rooted 4 of my friends' heros. They love it. Once you do one, you think, "what was so hard about that?" At least that's how I was. I am running CM6. Tried fresh and Zen, they were okay, look similar to factory, just don't lag like factory, and better battery. I always went back to CM6. If you flash CM6, I recommend getting Dialer One. The rom doesn't have a smart dialer.

Root, make a nandroid, and start flashing. You won't regret it.

Agree With FunkALunk -
I was nervous too.

But it is soooo easy to root & Unroot - one click and done.
Make a nandroid(backup)
Download ROM Manger -
Pick a Rom -
And If you make a Nandroid (rom backup) you can always revert back to your phone EXACTLY how you had it !~

Don is gonna do it!!! Right Don!

Could you provide me with some help in Rooting and Intercept.

THank you for all the info. One more question. HOW do I make a nandroid? what all does it need to include? I just don't want to forget aanything and screw my phone up. Will rooting void my warranty

First Step - Root Your Phone.
Step two - Download ROM Manager from the Market (free works fine)
Step Three - Open ROM Manger and Flash Clockwork Recovery (first option you see in Rom Manager
Step 4 - Scroll down in Rom Manager to backup and restore section.
Click Backup current Rom - Let it do its thing and then it will reboot.

You now have a Nandroid backup, That is set up EXACTLY (includes apps widgets wallpaper settings etc) as it was when you made the Nandroid.

You can now flash Custom Roms Worry Free (just no gsm) - if something goes wrong - Boot into recovery (hold volume down and power when phone is off) and flash your nandroid.

Happy flashing...

Rooting will void your warranty but as long as you keep that nandroid of your stock rom, you can flash that nandroid back to stock anytime you need it. FYI, you can also run the RUU and your phone would show no signs of being rooted;) You would just have to root again if you so choose:)
