Who has SLCD screen and how do you like it?

i have the slcd on my incredible and its great i love it cant complain i know there are some differences between the amoled but unless your side by side you cant really notice.

Mine is brand new and also has the SLCD on it.

Since mI really do not use it for video, but mostly for business based web apps, it's great!

Previous company phone was a HTC Ozone.

So you can imagine how difficult it was to work with web apps and that phone. Nearly impossible. Besides, I couldn't save Outlook to the SD card as well. It was not a phone for us field engineers!

Now that I have an Incredible, I love this thing, fastm, sleek, and screen is beautiful!

i believe youre replacement is supposed to be the same screen but you can go to about phone, hardware information, and if its 0003 then that means you have the slcd.


as for which one i like better, slcd by far. colors feel more accurate, no funky tint on whites, text is clean clear very sharp.

That's YOUR opinion. Not everyone will agree, my white balance is right on, and I'd rather have the improved contrast ratio, brighter-more vibrant colours, and bettery battery performance of the AMOLED over the SLCD. Of course everyone's opinion (and mileage) may vary.

0002 here. thanks. still looks a bit strange. as soon as i meet up with my friends Dinc i will know for sure.

if your serial number ends in 3 its slcd


also both screens are very similar without being side by side it will be very hard to notice i dont think you can go wrong with either screen but thats just my .02

I had to replace my Incredible a few weeks back. The replacement came with Froyo preloaded, but I couldn't tell any difference in the screen. The replacement is hardware version 0002, but MyVerizon tells me I have an 'ADR 6300 SLCD'.

Somethings not quite right...

I have an original dinc purchased a week after launch. I have been using it happily since then. I love the phone, just absolutely love it. Until yesterday I did not have any idea that HTC switch from using AMOLED to SLCD.

Last week the track pad stopped working, I called verizon, did my thing and they sent me a replacement. NORMALLY when verizon sends a replacement device, its a refurb and all they send you is the phone with nothing else. Well this time they sent me a brand new one in the box. -whatever-, yay for me.

I open the box, pop in the battery, fire up the phone and get it ready to load the backup I took of my other phone for a seamless transition. Instantly I noticed something -off- about the display. My first reaction was "why does it looked so washed out". During the initial phone setup, and going through the menus, I could tell that the blacks were not black, and the colors were bland and dull. I thought maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me, so I took the old phone, and the new phone and put them side by side running the exact same backgrounds and same icons on the screen. It was clear that my old phone had a superior picture, color saturation, and deep black goodness.

Determined to find out what was wrong, I started to google for "dinc washed out screen" and the first link I found was discussing the new SLCD screen. Within minutes I read all about the switch from amoled to slcd because of shortages of amoled.

These articles also said "you cant really tell a difference" - Ya F'in right. When my wife got home last night, I took both phones to her (she is the opposite of tech savy" turned them both on, and let her look at photos. The same photos on each screen. I asked "which one looks better". Without hesitation she said, pointing to the new phone, "Why does this one look so washed out, is this your old one?" I laughed and said with a higher than normal pitched voice, "No! this is the "new" one with the "new" screen, it looks like sh*t doesnt it"

So I wanted to give my first impressions about the screen to those of you who may or may not have seen one. I wasnt looking for a difference, the difference jumped off the screen as obvious.

Is it me, or was the MAJOR SELLING POINT of the dinc the AMOLED screen?? I don't know about you guys, but I chose the incredible for its superior screen when compared to other phones my friends had.

Now I feel like I have either keep the phone with the broken track pad, or deal with the new screen. I am going to use both phones today and see if i end up not noticing it as much as i think i will.

I cant help but feel a bit ripped off...

Read the fine print in your contract. If you exchange a phone, they have to give you the same phone with the SAME SCREEN. Unless they do not have any available, in which case they have to notify you and give you the option to choose the new screen.

I too am worried about this. My dInc has a blown speaker (second one) and I need to take it back, but have been hesitant cause I dont want to lose my beautiful screen. Maybe I'll take it in and tell them I only want a replacement if it has the amoled.

And as much as i use the track pad (almost never), I might just stick with it, and send back the slcd junk

Would they know that you replaced it yourself? (i.e. would they void the warranty if they didnt know you replaced it?)

Well, there is that little "void" sticker over one of the screws. I haven't figured out a way to remove it without breaking it yet

Taking the trackpad out of the phone is actually pretty simple. There are instructional videos on youtube I think and it's only a few screws to get to it and the thing pops right out. I would suggest that you take both phones apart and switch the trackpad from the LCD Dinc and put it in your old AMOLED Dinc. Then send back the LCD Dinc to them and say the new phone they sent you the trackpad doesn't work either and be done with it.

I really don't want to hear the peanut gallery screaming that this is wrong or fraudulent because 1. You purchased the phone based on the AMOLED screen, 2. The trackpad broke only a few months into using the device, 3. They sent you a "lesser" model phone without disclosing this to you which is misrepresentation and deceptive business practices and 4. It's the OP's decision in the end not yours...

I honestly doubt you could do much. I would just satisfy with getting the trackpad replaced and being done with it and not stuck with a "lesser" LCD model. That's just me though. Like I said the repair work takes only a few minutes and your superior AMOLED Dinc would be back up and running.
