So I got home tonight, then 30 minutes later I couldn't find my phone, so I started panicking, the first thought was that my girlfriend's cousin had stole it or i'd lost it, because I never leave anywhere without my phone, I always check I have it before I leave. Also, my girlfriend cousin has been round at her house all day and he is a very bad thief (he is actually going to prison tomorrow, thank the lord lol), so I started thinking to myself "what if he stole it".

I remembered I had MyLookout installed, so logged into my account on the website. I tried to locate the phone and it was showing on the map that it was located at my girlfriends house. So I went round to her house and as soon as she opened the door she handed it to me.

Now I know I didn't technically loose it, I just left it at my girlfriends house (which was a surprise to me as I normally always check I have it before I leave). But my point is, if it had been lost or stolen, I would have been able to locate it, and go to the point it was located to retrieve it. If my girlfriends cousin had of stolen it, I would have known straight away :)

So there is a very good reason to have MyLookout on your phone, and if you don't, I suggest you download it now! It locates your phone within 2 minutes, you can make your phone scream from the website, incase you've lost it around the house somewhere, it is also a virus scanner, an auto backup, and logs most actions that have been done on the phone.

It's completely free and in my opinion, one of the best apps on the market!

Here is the QR Code :)

It sounds great but I have a couple of questions:

1) It seems as though you'd have to have GPS or Wireless turned on 100% of the time for that to really work. Is that true? (I keep all my services shut off when I put the phone down)

2) Anti-virus, backup, etc etc etc.. any of that running quietly in the background sapping the battery?

Cheers :)

1) The only thing the website states for locating a phone, is "Network connection required"

2) Since I installed it over 2 weeks ago, I have not noticed more use of battery. My bettery seems to last just as long as it did before I had the App :)

+1 on that CuBz

Had where's my droid and other such apps installed for a while

However i must point out the downside - if its switched off it won't work

Well I thought that would be obvious :D I have my phone turned on 24/7 so that's not a problem for me lol

Which is the first thing I would do if I was a mobile phone thief, and why I probably won't bother with such programs. I've yet to leave this phone anywhere, I've done it in the past with other phones, but so far so good with this.

Not all thiefs are as clever as you :D Mobile phones are one of the most often things stolen in my area, and almost all of the thiefs never turn the phone off, so the phones are sometimes easily tracked back. Anyway, its still worth having because without it, you would never know if the thief turned the phone off or not, and its not really a chance I would take

Well for the benefit of those users that wouldn't know i felt it worth mentioning

as with you my phone is switched on 24/7 and if i did lose my phone i wouldn't assume it was stolen, hence why i have those apps installed

do have an app installed on the wifes for if i lose my phone and they reply but not allowed to mention what it does lol

I had this app for quite some time... and for your information IT DOES AUTOSCAN, but you can just set it up to make it anytime you wish, it also do auto backup. I tried early (just for show off) the scream feature and it does a siren that sound like the Police's and even if you put the phone on mute it keeps on screeming...good thing

My only concern with this program is the access it has to information on the phone. There are a lot of posts on the web about the parent company that owns the company that makes this app. They are a data mining company that sells personal information. So when you use this app, you are not just potentially giving them your info, but all of your contacts as well. I believe that we all have a responsibility to protect our friends information as well as our own. My friends don't need more spam because I gave their email address to a company with no privacy statements.
