What's the deal with flash?

Help me out here because I really don't get it. Why are so many people disappointed/annoyed/infuriated about the lack of flash support? Why are people saying things like "we NEED flash" or "Flash should be part of the next update!!"

I know what flash is, so you don't have to explain that part, I just don't get why it's so big a deal that it's missing. What websites use flash exclusively? What are people missing out on?

Save for movie and graphic design websites, I don't really come across a lot of websites designed only with flash, so I guess I'm just not understand it's "vitality" to some people.

Really, people are freaking out because they can't use Hulu or FunnyOrDie on their phone? That rises to the level of urgency I see in posts and on the market? I thought it was something life-threatening.

And you're right, flash is all about Adobe, so it's even funnier to see people getting upset with Google about it. That's like getting mad at your landlord because you get a lot of junkmail.

Most people understand that flash is owned by adobe. But most of the confusion comes from diffrent sorces and some say that it is comming vio OTA update and some just say that they dont know how it is gonna be done.

Either way, Flash is a big part of the internet and many peoople would like to watch streaming video. But no not life or death...

i dont think i was ever specifically taught to give "cred" only to Google or Adobe. So i guess your assumptions are right. No. No they don't. Im shocked to find out they used to. Bit weird.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Are you a professional comedian? Wow. So funny, you are. I have to go to the hospital now because my sides have split open. So so funny.

No Masonator, what I was saying is if Google or Adobe didn't say this or that about Flash being part of Android -- then it's rumor, speculation and doesn't deserve to be considered seriously. It has no cred.

In school, at least when I went, you weren't allowed to write a report on, say, dinosaurs, get all your information from your cousin Judy the flight attendant, and consider cousin Judy a credible source. If cousin Judy happens to be a palentologist or zoological historian, then you were certainly doing legit research, if she's just a flight attendant, chances are pretty high that she doesn't know what the hell she's talking about.

My point is that if Google or Adobe aren't the ones talking about Flash on the Android OS, why is anyone listening? And more importantly, why are they holding Google and Adobe responsible for what someone else says?

What I have seen happen is "No flash, but I was told it was going to be in an update!!" Well who told you? The answer is always "I don't know" or "some guy" or "I don't remember where I heard it."

I think I'm going to start a rumor that Android is going to charge you 1 cent per tap, 0.5 cents per drag, and 2 cents per long press. Let's see how long before idiots are calling Android and T-Mobile and complaining how unfair the Tap Tax is. Can't wait!

flip side of the coin is that if you want info
you can not wait on the companies official statements
the anonymous source, ninja, insider, whatever
is where 95% or more of the early info comes from on forums
would there even be an "androidforums" if they waited on official google announcements?
but i agree , why get upset if this early info proves wrong?

I for one would really like to have RedTube on my phone :D

And there ARE freeware flash implementations out there that could be ported, so saying it's up to google or adobe isn't 100% true...

Good point, but you never see the people going back to the ninja, insider, whoever and saying "what gives?". Instead they're like "Google lied to me!! I'm buying an iPhone!" (Like Apple never screwed a customer:rolleyes:).
