Help I can't delete 20000 messages.

I have 8000 messages in 1 thread,
7500 messages in another thread,
and 4800 messages in another thread.

Whenever i try and send a message now, it takes roughly around 2 minutes to send ONE text message. I think this is because of how many messages i have.

But the problem is - My phone crashes whenever i try and delete one of these threads. I tried deleting the messages, then leaving it on over night to delete them all, but when i woke up, my phone was just regularly at the home screen with none of the messages deleted.

How do I delete all these stupid messages?

1) You text too much.

2) Try the SMS Eraser from the market

I had a similar issue with a text holding 5,000 text. It was from a newly ex-girlfriend and didn't want to keep it anymore.

After a few futile attempts and frustrations,I went under SOUND AND DISPLAY in the SETTINGS and set SCREEN TIMEOUT to NEVER. Clicked delete and left the phone alone. When i came back, the message was deleted.

Hope that helps for you.

I use the Handcent SMS app for my text messages. If you go to the list where all your text messages are displayed and press and hold a text message thread, one of the options displayed will be "Force Delete". Click on this option and a small blue convo window pops up in your task bar. If you pull the task bar down, you can view the progress of deleting that thread "Handcent deletion, tap to cancel."

It goes very very very slowly. As in, it hasn't reached 1/20th of the deletion in 10 mins to delete a 1700 message thread, but if you just leave it be, it'll eventually delete it.

This is the best option I find. If you simply choose "delete", your phone will likely freeze and crash, and deleting messages one text at a time is ridiculous.

Also connect your phone to a computer. For some reason this makes it run faster but it still takes awhile depending on how many Text's are in the thread.
