Froyo 2.2 Canada!

Hello All, I have a Samsung Galaxy S with Bell Mobility, I don't want to root my phone and void my warranty, so I am waiting for the official release of the update, do you guys know when it will be available through KIES for Canada or North America, thanks!!!

I to would like to know this, went on Kies yesterday and it updated for like 20 mins...thought I was gonna be able to get 2.2 but when I connected my phone it said it was not available in my reigon. Hope we dont have to wait to much longer here in Canada.

I thought that it was only T-Mo UK that pulled it so far?...

It has not been released in the UK at all as yet.

It was released in various Scandinavian countries and has since been withdrawn with Samsung claiming it was never really meant to be released yet.

It's a total mess.

From what I've been reading on XDA a lot of people are going with the registry hack trick.


Who knows maybe Froyo is ready, but Samsung might not have the servers to cover the 5Mil+ phones that it sold for the upgrade so it's probably just letting it trickle to everyone slowly...

Reg hack doesn't work any more as the update is no longer out there.

The 5M figure everyone always quotes is pointless as it includes a load of US models which are not getting updated any time soon either.

The only other way round it is to flash the 2.2 firmware via Odin. 2.2 can be downloaded from samfirmware.

That is true.

The debate is whether it's actually worth the effort for what was at one point claimed to be the official release.

Yes very true. I flashed over to froyo 2.2 last week and I haven't had any problems with it. The only problem I did encounter was I lost my "Market" app but this came back straight away after a factory reset from the phones menu. I didn't loose 2.2 doing this but did have to reinstall my apps but they were backed up anyway on my external card.

JM1 is the very latest version of eclair then froyo 2.2 will superseed it but Samsung have pulled 2.2 for some reason or other. You can easily get froyo 2.2 from the net and install it on your phone using Odin but seeing as Samsung have pulled the latest release its probably best to wait until they have sorted what ever is wrong with it before installing it on your phone.

I have worked out how to enter the first code x#272xHHMM# and my sales code says [VOD] now if I change that to XEU then will this mean that my phone is totally unbranded and will stop Vodafone updates and only give me the correct Samsung updates via kies i.e. vanilla stuff [the way it was intended by Samsung]

1/ When you enter *#272*HHMM#
Do you just get one code ie. XEU or do you get a few to that you can select?

2/ Enter the following code *#7465625#
Does it say the phone is network locked?

number 1 doesn't work for me don't no what HHMM means
2 says Network lock [On]BELL
Network Subset [OFF]
SP Lock [OFF]
CP Lock [OFF]

doesn't work for me this code entering x#272xHHMM#-*#272*4466# correct doesn't seem do nothing ....

nahhhhhhhh u mean codenamed 'HTC Passion well happy with this one HD screen and what not hoping the 2.2 fix lag problems not liking about this phone only pay 169 with tax not soo bad like screen and touch this really iphone twin i give this phone a 9/10 would of been 10 but i froze already had take battery out also MIGHT also add not much battery life not staying longer then day with heavy usage hopefully this fix it self next few days still new but anyways .....we want 2.2 FROYO

I hope the update comes out soon too. I've tried the registry hack to get 2.2 and it only install 2.1 update 1. It's a shame how long they take, probably bloating android 2.2 with useless stuff. If only we could get the updates directly from google instead
