Root mms problems!!

So I decided that I didn't like the default messaging app, so I got rid of it for Handcent sms. When I receive messages, I get a popup quick reply thing, but beyond that, when I go to look at the conversation view, I see only texts that i sent.

Can anyone help me?

I tried every setting I could find in my phone, and nothing seems to help. Also reinstalling the default app is not working.

"cannot stat mms.apk no such file or directory"

When you say, "got rid of it" did you delete it?

Because I was having problems where I would send messages, but the person I sent them to would never receive it and I couldn't receive any messages. I did delete the stock messaging app (was using chompSMS) using the terminal (there was a backup, though). When I realized that that may have been the problem, I reinstalled it and everything was fine.

If you did, I recommend getting it back (if possible). You can hide the notifications from the messaging app. And, if you have LP, you can hide the app from your drawer.

Well, I'm using Velocity 0.3, and I just used the script to remove the messaging app. I downloaded the .apk and the .odex file, for some reason though, they will not install. Possibly because they are from the droid X. I really didn't think that would matter, but maybe it does.

I just don't want to have to re flash velocity just to fix this, but that may be what i end up doing.

Reflash. Don't remove core parts of the OS. Also, don't remove gtalk, or else you'll be going through this again.

open up terminal emulator and use these coammds to install the messaging apk into /system/app

Code:
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
cat /sdcard/apkname.apk > /system/app/apkname.apk

Just replace apkname with the messaing app name and the same for the .odex file

I did what you told me, and I started to get a bunch of force close issues, so I rebooted. No I get stuck in a boot loop when I try to turn my phone on. I can still get into recovery though so I am just gonna re-flash.

Did you remove the backups the Velocity script made? You should be able to run mms -cp to put it back on. Otherwise, reflashing will be necessary. The only internal app I've successfully replaced is Browser with Dolphin. MMS is necessary to receive and store messages.

Actually, it was weird because when I ran the script, it never made a backup, and i never got any error messages either :/

I didn't realize that the mms app was used to store messages. I thought that Handcent would take care of that as well.

I can still send and receive mms with handcent, but the only time i get to see the messages is in the quick reply window that pops up.
