I can't be the only iPhone convert here who is underwhelmed with this hacking community. The iPhone has been hacked more, and more quickly than this Droid X or any of the Moto-locked phones. There are a handful of talented individuals working on it, but the key player seems to have given up.
Furthermore, even with this site - it is extremely disorganized and hard to understand what is the /best/ thing to do with your Droid X right now. We have "ROMs" (A misnomer) all over the place, with questionable functionality, and personally since I use my X for business - I am finding all the hacked solutions to be quite unstable (I'm on 2.3.15 leak right now). Perhaps the phone isn't that stable on stock software either. I am not an Apple fanboy at all - in fact I very reluctantly switched to AT&T and the iPhone when it gained ActiveSync support as it became the best tool for the job. I couldn't stand the iPhone 4 antennagate and Apple's awful response to the problem. AT&T's network (regarding voice quality and service coverage) seemed to only be getting worse.
But now, I have this powerful, larger phone, which seems to be back a step in time in some respects (stability, UI issues like WM5/6, fragmentation, email support) and a step forward in others (screen size, no need for a "tether" to something crappy like iTunes). I guess I am saying I am disappointed that there is not an iPhone 4 with a bigger screen, on Verizon, running LTE so I can use voice and data at the same time, with the Droid X's awesome noise-cancelling, and the undeniable polish of the iOS User Interface, with Android's level of customization. I'd buy that for a dollar.
So, Why can't the hacking community here band together like the iPhone hackers have? Fix the issues and make the device truly, fully superior to the iPhone? It seems the Moto lock is so confounding that it's just not worth the time for this device and we just need to wait for the Next Big Thing.
I hate to blaspheme, but even the old Windows Mobile and Moto V710 hacking communities were stronger and better-organized.
I think if the rumors are FINALLY true, I may bite the bullet and go back to the iPhone when it comes to VZW. Sigh.
