Position of volume and power buttons

Is anyone else annoyed by the fact that the volume and power buttons are positioned at the same level on opposite sides of the phone? When I try to hit the power button I usually hit the volume button as well because of the positioning so my ringer goes from vibrate to on or changes volume. The power button really should have been up top.

Well we are stuck with it now. I hate to sound like Steve Jobs but "don't hold your phone that way then." :p:D. I dont think I've ever pressed the volume button when pushing the power button in

I kinda like it, I didn't like the button on top unless the phone was sitting in my cup holder which was seldom. but the side is nice just slide your finger (holding it in the left hand) down the side and it will find and press the button while your thumb is below the volume buttons. Just about perfect.

And the charging port is great for my app. I have the phone laying on my dresser and the plug is on the wall side. Made just for me... Now if I could just have froyo tomorrow..

Thank you for having the nerve to post about a (small) issue that I was annoyed with. ;)

I resolved it by experimenting with different grips and methods of using the buttons, settling on holding the device in my right hand in such a way that my thumb uses the power/sleep button easily, as my fingers wrap around the other side just below the volume rocker.

A lot of two-handed efforts were compounding the problem.

i guess im in the minority, but i really like the power button where it. I hold the phone in my left hand and its in the best spot for me to click.

Yeah, it's been a problem for me too but nitsuj17 makes a good point. Almost like they designed the phone to be held in the left hand so that when you go to press the power button with the fingers the thumb is below the volume rockers. Reverse it to your right and you have the thumb trying to press the power button while the fingers are trying to apply opposing pressure without toggling the volume rockers. Kinda sucks.

Well at least my wife is happy. She's a south paw.

Bothered me for a couple of days - after I week I no longer had any problems at all. I agree with what you're saying in theory, but in practice humans are pretty adaptable. :D YMMV, I guess.

Well stated. I adapted. The SF is my first touch only phone and I was formerly addicted to a physical qwerty. But now not only do I touch only but I swype only

Yeah, no kidding. I went from "I dunno..can I really do just a soft keyboard?" to using my iPod touch for a bit (it's mostly retired now) and thinking "Holy crap, you mean I have to individually tap EVERY key?!" I love swype.

More on topic: I do still occasionally hit the volume buttons, but for the most part it's fine. At work when it's on my desk I just slide a finger down the side till I hit the power button.

Same, it doesn't irk me at all. Then again, my old LG Dare had the volume and power buttons on opposite sides, just reversed. I actually like it this way (although I don't really think it'd bother me if the power was elsewhere either).

SOLUTION- get a case. x10 easier to find the button now that it is indented by the plastic. plus i thought the phone was just too skinny without one..it literally slid out of all my pockets.

great advice. Since ive had mine in a case since day 1, i tend not to hold the phone without one except during batt pulls and 3-button recovery (the root crowd knows all about that). I took it out the case to play with it and i did keep accidently hitting the volume buttons.

Everyone has their case (or no case) preferences. I always use the gel-type cases for the sturdy grip on the phone they give. On my incredible, the notoriously loose power button on top sticks all the time unless using a case.
