So add this to the list of stuff the Droid deltes!! All of the sudden there is nothin gon my SD card. no 14gb of music, no 400 photos, no ringtones, nothing.

Added the the fact the phone has deleted my txt message inbox 3 times.

should i take this phone in and get it replaced?

I could see losing some files, but not an entire card full of data from not unmounting...

OP - did you try connecting your droid to your computer to see if you can see anything on the card that way, or by removing the card and viewing it via PC directly (assuming you have an SD adapter or your computer supports micro-SD)?

There are file-recovery programs that should be able to help you...the files are likely still there, just the directory pointers have likely been corrupted.

Doing a reset (under Privacy in Settings, I believe) is a good idea, in case you have some errant bytes on the Droid that are messing w/the SD card file system.

You also should probably format the card fresh after you're done w/any file recovery actions...good luck. Reminds me I should back up my micro-SD card more often...

Another pebcak error.

That wasn't very helpful. Please realize, that as Android based phones expand (some are even hypothesizing dumb/feature phones will get Android), that our user base here will likely get less "techy" oriented. There is no need for a dig like that...Either try to help, or don't say anything...

To the OP, it seems as if you have had several problems with this phone. If it didn't have to do with mounting/unmounting, I would probably take the phone in and have it swapped out before your 30 days expires...

I didn't ask for these users... I'm allowed to post here just as much as they are... Personally I feel that a user should be required to read here for at least 2 weeks before being allowed to post. Not only should they have to read for 2 weeks but they should have to issue at least 20 searches before they're allowed to post....

Smart phone / Dumb phone... Maybe the monikers aren't about the phones but rather the people they were meant for?
OK first off i need to respond to this ********. I've been a member of the forum well over 2 weeks (launch day) and i've helped a lot and posted alot so get bent. So far this is the first reported issue with an SD card getting deleted on the droid so i posted for advice.

back on track.....i was not mounting or unmounting the card today, just at work listening to slacker radio and the music on my card. When i stopped getting call ringtones to play i investigated and bam.....nothing on the card. so i mounted it to the pc and comfirmed it only had 3 blank folders in it (lost.something temp and something else sorry don't remember the names but nothing in any of them) i reset the phone but have not done a factory reset since. i did however do a reset like last weekend to address an issue with calls being choppy

Was it working yesterday? Did you add ringtones via mounting in the last few days? Have you plugged the phone into your computer even if you didn't mount the card to the computer? Do you have any applications that are file managers and less than very commonly used? Honestly I still think its your fault... And your opinions of me mean nothing to me... So I'm an *******. Big deal. ;)

Cause what you did you didn't think it was a very big deal and you're not telling us what it was...

I'll try a theroy that might not point to you (but probably still does... ;)) is that the thing has a FAT file system on it. Try mounting it into a computer directly with a card reader and try doing some file system checks on it. See if you can find bad sectors that may point to a bad flash nugget. If you just find a corrupt file system then its probably related to mount/unmount issues.

You've not rooted your phone have you? I'm going to laugh my ass off if you say you have...

i love your assumptions. I DID NOT MOUNT/UNMOUNT THE CARD. like how much better plain english can i speak or maybe your translator isn't understanding me. But since you are so smart how about you read the other thread from a guy thats just had the same problem i had.

If i was rooted i would have already assumed it was something to do with that. but incase you didn't get that and i need to be clearer

I'M NOT ROOTED

So try mounting the card in a card reader and finding problems with the flash array using file system tools.

Just because someone else had the same issue didn't mean you both didn't do something stupid.

So if there is a problem with the flash array how is that my fault??!?!?!!!?? BTW i don't have a card reader.

If you read my post you'll note my saying I'll try a theory that might not point to you. However you were probably too pissed off to read things with a level head.

Perhaps its time to invest in a card reader... You can try to do file system tests while mounted through the Droid but having a card reader removes one more variable.

See was that so hard to give constructive help? That is accually something i could do with my roomates laptop card reader. So if the card tests ok WTH is with my droid?

btw your claus on that statement was intended to piss me off and claim you still believe it's my fault regaurdless so don't play the " you didn't read what i said" cause we are both smarter then that.

No I was saying it cause I was offering a theory that didn't point to you... The ending was to try and piss you off cause its kinda fun... I'm not being paid to help you so why should I have to worry about sugar coating things to make you feel better about yourself. You're the one that came out into a public forum to ask for help. If the help comes with a little chaff thats the way things work. Welcome to Linux... ;)

Usually I'm nicer about it and I do spend a lot of time supporting and helping people with Linux issues... Sometimes I get sick of it and I let people know. Sometimes when I do that people think I'm an asshole. Great thing though is I could care less what people think of me...
Well go else where to stroke your ego. I was asking for advice yes, and yes you are not entittled to post anything, but that doesn't meen people have to put up with your shit because you decided to grace us with your presence. Honestly i could care less if you help or not. If the price is an ego stroke i'd rather not have the advice....

Why do I have to leave... I'm having fun... You're the one that doesn't want the advice... If you don't want it don't ask for it.

Quit whining and try to solve your problem.
