Hard reset, whats the difference between the two options

Can anyone explain what the diffences are between the two methods for a factory/hard reset, i know that you can perform a reset with the buttons, eg: volume down > power button, and also through the phone settings, but is there any difference between the two, does one do a more thorough wipe than the other or is there no difference.

One just restarts the phone in the event of a problem, the other clears all data and resets the phone to how it was when you first got it. So you have to set up your accounts again, etc.

Thanks for your input, but i think you may have got it a bit wrong, both options wipe/reset the phone to factory settings, and both options require you to re-enter your accounts, apps, etc, what i would like to know is, does one do a more thorough wipe that the other, eg: does one of these options force a full erase in the same way an RUU update does.

Yes both are the exact same reset. The difference is the bootloader may work when you can't get the phone to boot all the way into the desktop, like if it freezes/locks up before starting completely. It's a way of getting around an issue where the phone won't work normally. That's it.
