Virtuous 3.1 Released

ok, so DSP Manager is included in this rom..., how can get rid of it? While I enjoy the concept of a hardware based EQ, it has issues... Particularly the broken up wierd sound that occurs while listening to music and a notification sounds... That and the ongoing blast of energy at the beginning of every song...

Humm, I haven't heard anything like that. Seems to be working fine here, however I'm only using the compressor.

Anicotra,

If it only acted on the music sounds, rather than every single sound the device makes, the DSP manager would be a perfect solution to a device lacking serious quality sound... I end up finding myself perfectly happy with the EQ in the mixzing player because all it acts on is the music.

But with all the reasons I don't want to try 3.1 (buggy dspmanager, no custom kernel that can be acted on by setcpu, good possibility of double icons) I'm still flashing this rom. Every week or so, I really get an itchy trigger finger with a new rom. :)

Weird, I'm not hearing any burst of energy when songs start. I've used this app a few days now, listening to slacker via bluetooth in my car. I haven't enabled the Equalizer, but I do enable the compressor. I haven't heard any clipping, distortion, or echoing.

Worst case, as mentioned in two of those threads, the app can be disabled completely.

As for the kernel, I was using the custom kernel before updating to 3.1.0, and it was pretty good on battery. However, I haven't seen a big difference in battery drain with the new stock kernel and it charges much faster than the custom kernel does. So, for now, I'm sticking with the stock kernel. I did see some posts in this thread, or over at XDA of some people that are running the custom kernel on 3.1.0. Check those posts out, if you really want the custom kernel (which would allow the use of setCPU).

Thanks Anicotra for your thoughts... I ran the 3.1 update, and as of this time, have only hit one snag. I did a battery pull, then a full 8 hour powered off charging session. Powered up @ 8AM, phone was dead by 3:30PM. had to charge for the 2nd time in one day.

So just for fun, I did go ahead and load the custom kernel v2 and setcpu. Booted 8AM, down to 93% by 9:00AM...

I probably should have left the suggested kern and tried to figure out whats so battery hungry but my weekends are 10X more busy that during my work week. LOL

update: custom v2 kernel... 8AM boot... 6pm... sitting pretty @70% uptime 9:51, awake time 1:28... there's just something about the v2 custom kernel that just gets the job done!

Jury's still out on the DSPManager with me, because I have yet to test it out.
update 2: dsp manager has been acting good for me! Highly optimistic now!

So, ever since I rooted and installed Virtuous 3.0.1 I have had issues with it not syncing with gmail or friendstream, and saying that my phone is low on space. That also doesn't let in download or update apps, or download MMS message. I tried upgrading to the 3.1 version, and I am having all the same issues. So my question is that I should do a wipe and install, which I am assuming will delete all my applications. Is there a way to keep them? For example, Shazam, if I redownload it then I will have the version that only allows a few Shazams? a month, right now it's unlimited. Anyway I can keep my applications? Thanks a lot!

I do not use Shazam, so no experience with that. But generally speaking you can backup your apps using titanium and restore them.
As to your earlier issue, I have never faced them with my phone and things have been very smooth with Virtuous, so no experience. Sorry.

I have had 3.1 for a week now and I have been getting pretty good battery performance. After about 17-18 hours I still generally have somewhere between 35-45% juice left. I have tried this with the OEM battery and the 1750

Having said that, I used to get similar performance with the custom kernel in 3.01 with setcpu.

Now I get it without setcpu, which is quite impressive.

Yea, but with the new stock kernel in 3.0.1, there's one more benefit, charging time is MUCH faster than the custom kernel, or any kernal since 2.2.

I know you don't have to wipe for an upgrade from 3.0.1 but do you need to do a titanium backup? Will doing the upgrade delete my apps or what?

No, it does not delete your apps. I have had the smoothest of ride from 3.0.1 to 3.1 except for flash not working.

But taking a titanium backup is a cautionary step, incase things go wrong. You may have seen on the forum that different people have different experiences with the same upgrade.

In rom manager, download rom, virtuous, restore apps & Revert Addons, then click the remove dspmanager, and click ok... hang on for the ride, reboot, and it's gone...

I'm not seeing the option to remove the DSP Manager. I'd like to remove it as well since I don't use it and my playback doesn't seem as smooth as it was in stock.

My list only includes:
Inc MMS App
Inc Camera App
HTC Lockscreen

Any ideas?

For what it's worth, I've been using the Custom Kernel w/ SetCPU for nearly a week. I actually didn't know that it wasn't really recommended. I haven't noticed any real dramatic issues with battery performance.

The second post over at XDA by RMK40 in the Virtuous 3.10 thread actually encourages you to use SetCPU. Not sure if that was a mistake and carry-over from 3.0.1 or what.

You can use setcpu with the custom kernel v2 by adrynalyne. I think your talking about the stock v4 kernel.
