Delete Ghost SMS Messages

Hello everyone,
First of all I hope that I am posting in the right location. This is my first post here so please excuse me if I misplaced my post.

The case is I have many SMS messages that have a date of 1 Jan 1970, AKA Ghost messages. My mobile is HTC Magic, and I am using Cyanagonmod 6.0 on it. I believe this problem happened when I used MyPhone Explorer app to delete my old messages straight from my PC. Well, i gotta admit that not all the messages I deleted through that app did the same behavior?!!! So, I am not pretty sure of the scenario by which it caused this problem, however I am pretty sure that It's because this application.

What I need now is some way or an app that can clear those ghost messages from my Phone. They don't appear when I search for them using MyPhone Explorer. Also, I tried an application called CleanMessages which delete messages based on some criteria (for example date) but it also can't detect them. This is becoming very annoying. So, any suggestions here? Thanks

Have you tried clearing app data of Messaging? Have you tried viewing what is on your SIM card and checking if that is not where these are?

I have tried both suggestions and yet the same! I cleared app data of Messaging and checked. Ghost SMS messages are still there :( Also, i checked that those messages are not stored on my SIM card.

But I found out one interesting thing. 2 messages I deleted recently transformed into Ghost Messages as well. I am quite sure that I didn't delete them using MyPhone Explorer, and this clears that application name. on the other hand, I had an application called SMS Popup. From another post i found before, this application has a history with Ghost Messages. I don't wanna jump into conclusions here. I uninstalled this application now, then I am gonna restart my phone, and will try to delete another message to see whether it will transform into ghost or no.

In the meantime, my original problem is yet exist and REALLY annoying!!! How can i get rid of those Ghost Messages?!! Open for suggestions

Deleting messages now was successful. The new messages deleted weren't transformed into Ghost :) Still old ghost messages are there :(

Any suggestions?!!

It seems that the issue was caused by misconfiguration on your side. I suspect that you had notifications checked in both Messaging and SMS Popup. And I know you might have unchecked notifications in Messaging, but I also know that it can miraculously come back as it did on my phone and then you have to uncheck it again.

Ummm ... I guess you are giving me a solution to how to prevent messages to be transformed into ghosts by unchecking the notification in messages. Well, I actually un-installed SMS Popup, and afterwards, I tested deleting messages and it worked fine. No ghost messages this time!

Now my problem is, how to get rid of my current messages list?!!!!!!!!

I am talking about a situation when you use SMS Pop up and not when you do not use it. When you have two apps for SMS you have to switch off notifications in one of them.

Now my problem is, how to get rid of my current messages list?!!!!!!!!

Press and hold a thread or a message and it will give you the option.

@Szadzik
Indeed I tried doing this. Selecting a message or a thread then choses to delete and confirm. Nothing happens after this, and ghost messages are still in their places!!!!!!!

Any ideas??!!

Try installing an alternative SMS client like Chomp or Handcent and see if you can delete the messages from those.

If you're rooted you can try something like deleting the Messaging apk and then restoring it (back it up, delete, reimstall)

Well, I kindda tried something similar to this. Did a backup to Messaging app using Titanium, then from Manage Applications I cleared the User data for Messaging app. Unfortunately when I started messaging app again, those damn messages were still there, though the app was reinitializing all my settings!!!!!!!!!!!
