In a house
I am posting this thread to see what people would like to have as boot animations. I probably won't have time to make all of them, but I plan on trying to make a few of the top requests.

Also, if you have boot animations you have made, or links to someone else's boot animations that you like and think others would like here, please post those links! No sense in going through all that trouble for one that's already made! :)

**Important!!**
When posting links to boot animations, PLEASE specify whether it is an animation that doesn't work with the Fascinate and you'd like us to try and make it work, OR if it has been CONFIRMED to work specifically with the Fascinate, just so people know.

I will be posting links to some more of my favorites soon, but for now, this is my current favorite. I did not make it, and when I find out who did, they are going to get a big, fat thank you from me! It's awesome, and battery friendly to boot. (no pun intended)

Fascinate Boot Animation Links (confirmed to work):
Windows 7 Boot Animation
Spinning Droid (thanks to Saps for link and Natems from MyDroidWorld for creating it)

Fascinate Shutdown Animation Links(confirmed to work):
Reverse Android Scribble Shutdown (thanks to Saps for reversing, testing it, and the link)

Links to more links:
Bootanimation.zip links on XDA (thanks jamesnmandy)

Please post the quickest link possible to the actual "bootanimation.zip" file, or whatever they've named it, and if possible, please credit the producer for his/her work. Keep in mind that some links might point to download files that require membership/registration in order to allow you to download it.

Click HERE for some of the basics on creating your own boot animation using primarily photo editing software.

Thanks!!

Someone once said, its easier to ask for forgiveness than permission :D

I'm going to put a little watermark on it to give credit where credit is due ... I am so excited. I really hope this works. It's almost done. I gotta finish the looping part of it and test it in the bootanimation.zip viewer. If this works, I am gonna have a heyday making more of these, as time permits.

When I first saw this video, the first thing I thought was, "HOLY CRAP. I have GOT to get that on my SuperAMOLED screen as my start animation!!!" Not kidding. I have watched the video a dozen times and it still sucks me in. I'm going to try and make a startup sound that goes with it. Gonna be tough to do it justice though ...

Looking forward to seeing this completed. The colors and images in this video are amazing...

Canon Pixma: Bringing colour to life on Vimeo

Can't wait to see what kind of a boot animation you can make from it. I think it will really compliment the Super AMOLED screen well.

Hmm .. it is glitching back and forth between my new one and the windows 7 one ... must keep testing. No phone lockups though. That's a good sign!!

Maybe sleep on it amigo and come back fresh manana ;)

You want to be risky and give my bootanimation.zip file a try? Just to see if it works? I would try it on mine, but I still can't get ANY bootanimation.zip files to work no matter what I do. I'm going to do a clean wipe/restore with the odin files and root it, CWM it, and try again with the kernals from there.

I'm back in business. And I got my boot animation to mostly work. I'm confused by one thing, though - there is a green hairline on the left and right while playing the non-looped part, and the same super thin green line on the top. When it switches to the looped part, it goes to the right of the screen.

I can't figure out what's causing that green line. Each PNG is formatted to 480x800, and the desc file properly states that resolution, unless I'm missing something. Once I get it tweaked, I think we'll all like it. It's pretty cool looking, but still rough around the edges.

I'm going to post the rough draft now that I've confirmed it works. If any of you have time to test it would you also confirm the green lines? Also, I will work on the transition from the non-looped part to the looped part. I know exactly what to do to fix it.

Thanks!!!

Edit: Dang, can't get my zip file to upload to here. Is 12MB too big??

does anyone have a link to info on how to make one? like what do you need, a .gif? or .mov......and then of course it has to be sized properly for the device...

it looks like a video that was chopped into .png's and then sequenced

That's pretty much how it is! Smaller PNG's than native resolution seem to work fine, too. Here's a handy guide with some additional useful information, arguably the best resource I looked at for creating bootanimation.zip files:

[HOW-TO] Creating a bootanimation.zip

It's an excellent guide for basic information about how it works. He mentions one thing I found interesting, that JPEGs also work, and even create a much smaller file, but don't load as smoothly, and he didn't know why. I would imagine that it's due to the compression. A larger file with the same data when it comes to images means less compression. JPEGs are heavily compressed, and that's certain to slow down the boot animation process versus less compressed images, especially running at the same time your phone is trying to boot up.

Here is how I make them from video clips (the LONG way, lol).

1. Get a video player that lets you do frame by frame with by simply clicking the right arrow on your keyboard (such as quicktime)
2. Create an image in photoshop the size you want to make your boot animation (make sure to save it as PSD so you can do layers.)
3. This is easier if you have photoshop CS4 or newer: Do a screen cap of the frame you want to capture
4. Paste it onto your photoshop file as a new layer
5. line it up to where you need it and edit out the things you want to edit out
6. Next frame on video, and screen capture once again
7. This is where having photoshop CS4 or newer comes in handy. It will intelligently "snap-to" when you paste and align the next screen cap. It's a real time saver.
8. Repeat step five, six, and seven as needed

Make sure you make each file a new layer. This will give you a HUGE file when you're done, but makes it easy to export each PNG frame.

9. To export your files, make sure you UNCLICK all the eyes next to each layer.
10. Then click the eye of the first layer so it shows up.
11. Ctr shift S to save as something.
12. Select PNG
13. Save as frame0001 or something, but have at least three digits to number it with on the end.
14. Repeat process, frame by frame, clicking on the eyes that you want to export
15. When you're done get a zip utility such as Tugzip (free)
16. Make your desc text file (instructions linked above) with the proper resolution and repeat settings
17. Have your non-looped animation part in the folder "part0" and your loop part in "part1"
18. Then make a zip (bootanimation.zip) file with NO COMPRESSION out of part0, part1, and the desc file
19. Send it to your phone (bluetooth, SD card, USB)
20. Use root explorer or whatever you use to put it in the data/local directory
21. Reboot phone

I realize that there are more automated ways to probably do this, such as video to jpeg extractors, and other methods, but I like having the control and options photoshop has. You can do some really cool titling and transparencies in photoshop.

Anyways. Hope that helps!! Kind of a long process.

Brilliant SK. Many thanks for the tutorial and linkage. I see many of us giving this a try. I only have Elements not the full boat. But I think I might be able to give this go.
Great work and nicely done!!

BTW, how is your own special bootzip coming along?

Thanks for the info but theres no friggin way im going through all that, I was hoping for a one_click wonder app that would take a mp4 and turn it into a animation...lol

If it involves photoshop forget it, I dont have that much patience

Hahaha. I'm working on it. I just can't get rid of that strange green line!! THERE IS NOTHING GREEN in ANY of the PNG files. Where the heck is it coming from???

d13 would you be willing to make a sticky w/ themes, roms, boot animations etc like you had on the dx forums? Even though most of the stuff is at xda, not all of it is, and it d be nice to have a 1-stop shop here :D

yeah, thats going be some work, especially with this unlocked bootloader. But yeah I will get one going:D

If you'd like, Saps and I can help you out with it. We can post and maintain it, and you can just sticky it. I'm going to keep updating this thread with all the bootanimation relevant stuff I find, including my little step by step guide for those with photoshop (or similar image editing software such as GIMP.)
