The old one seemed like it had more expandability. There was that open button right in the middle that I kept hoping would provide quick access to some other function.
I would like to start out by saying hello to you all as this thread subject was the reason I searched and joined your community. I just have to say I like all of the other updates i have noticed EXCEPT this new DAMN lock screen! i mean c'mon at least give us the option of keeping the old one and not this generic i phone looking one! I know we can go in and change to a different pattern but not the original one! Boo on them for that! Had to rant to some people that can relate even though it looks like many of you like the new one.
First thing i thought of when i saw the change was i wonder if they did it for that. A lot of people i let see the phone said wtf do i do? I liked the old one and the time better but i guess i'll keep it.
This is hilarious...I hope someone from Google is watching this thread. You gotta believe they were worried something might go wrong w/the update, but I'm pretty sure no one at Google predicted a retro lock-screen revolt.
Seems like a great opportunity for a smart Android developer....
errr...i dont get why ppl love the old unlock screen so much. i hated it. it wasn't accurate and it wasn't just a "swipe". there were so many times when i tried to swipe it over in an arc and it would just bounce back. so frustrating when i'm trying to unlock my phone quickly. sometimes even if i swiped it 90% over it would still bounce back. i had to reach all the way across for it to unlock. got so annoyed with it that i ended up putting the security pattern instead, which is actually more fun but looks ugly and fills the whole screen which blocks the wallpaper. btw, it worked exactly the same way as it does now on the new update actually. slide the slider to a certain point on the unlock bar area and it will unlock. just that now its not in the shape of an arc. you can hold down the bar drag it over slowly and once it comes in contact with that green dot, itll unlock. same thing as before with the arc only there was no green dot to indicate it. but right now though, i turned off the security pattern cuz i'm liking the new unlock screen. looks and works way better.

Different strokes for different folks! Mine worked FLAWLESSLY every time and I want my effing ARC back!!! And if you go in the setup and make your own its not even close to the old one.

I just got my update via OTA, my lock screen did not change. I am on the new software, guess i got lucky or they changed the package.
if thats the case they better offer it to everyone, the rep on the phone at Verizon this morning had no idea what I was talking about and suggested i write Motorola.
To be honest, I don't like either lock screens. It doesn't seem to go with the masculinity of the phone (speaking of design only). The arc was a little flatter and less "cartoonish" and the symmetrical composition of the whole screen was nice. The new "tabs" looking buttons are not intuitive, one would never look at that and immediately understand that a swiping motion is required. As for the offset time/date carrier banner; it reminds me of a business letter head. Like I said, I am not fond of either screen, but of the two choices, the first one was more appealing to me. I do like the font better on the new screen though.
The complaining on this thread (not the OP) is a sign of people with too much money, too much free time, and a refined ability to find things to complain about even in the midst of limitless bounty.

Please stop acting this way. This forum is here so people can not only go on and on about how much they love the phone, but to also voice what they don't like. They are allowed to do that.
I for one MUCH prefer the old screen, and wish I had an option to choose between the two. I assure you this has nothing to do with how much money or free time I have.
I prefer the new one not because of how it looks but because it's not as easy to accidentally unlock or mute my phone. The old unlock screen I always found my phone on mute or unlocked when I didn't intend to do so. So far, I have yet to accidentally unlock or mute my phone with the new screen.

Hahaha. Also, you people do realize you are on a website chatting with other people about your SMARTPHONE right?!? I am fairly certain everyone with enough time and money to discuss their pricey gadgetry can't really bash other people that do.
I like the original because I only had to move my thumb rather than my entire hand to swipe. But I'll deal either way....
I had the most trouble figuring out how to answer the first couple calls. I got the "green means go" part....but the up arrow threw me off. I kept trying to pull the icon upwards on the screen and was going nowhere. I switched to answering on bluetooth until I could get to another phone to call my droid to experiment.
i want to know why they can't make an unlock screen that follows the natural motion of my thumb for one handed use. my thumb doesn't bend that way holding it normally.
Lets put it this way. Since the update I haven't accidentally put my phone on silent yet. With the old lock screen, I would somehow always end up with my phone on silent, which led to numerous missed calls.

On my updated Droid the arrow points right for the unlock action and left for the mute/unmute. Exactly the direction you have to move the control. There is also a coordinated colored dot opposite the control showing where I should move it to. Seems pretty straightforward. YMMV.
