Fascinate or Incredible

Sooo i am still debating whether to get the fascinate or incredible after reading a whole bunch of threads. I love everything about the fascinate but it is just the matter of using bing is all, and i love the way htc sense looks. and which one is faster the fascinate or incredible, i am probably not going to root at all

Oh Justinnnn!?!?

He'll be the guy to talk to when it comes to straight up performance as he has both, although both are rooted.

Feature-wise do you like Sense or TouchWiz (although both can be put behind Launcher Pro or ADW)? Do you like the larger screen? Do you need the Incredible's joystick?

As for Bing, when Froyo is released (next month supposedly) you should be able to use all-Google services.

I looked at both when getting the Fascinate although tossed the Inc aside in favor of the Droid X for a Fascinate competitor, but in the end still wound up with the Fascinate. Great screen, perfect size, works great.

Yeah, this was my first smartphone as well. I looked at the Inc, Droid 2, Droid X, and Fascinate. I don't like QWERTY keyboards so that axed any advantage the D2 had. Other than Sense and the joystick the Inc didn't really have any "advantage" over the Fascinate or X so I axed it. The DX really is slick, while Blur isn't perfect I like alot of the features it has: HDMI Out, zoom in cursor placement when typing, giant screen, stock Android look, etc. The absolute biggest thing going against it though is the size, it is huge and the camera bump doesn't help.

With the Fascinate I didn't mind TouchWiz (although I do prefer LauncherPro), the camera works great, it's just the right size, the screen is brilliant, and the Hummingbird processor + 540 GPU make it a rocket with 3D. My wife and I both ended up getting Fascinates. It's not perfect (GPS bug, Bing) but it was my favorite of the options. The good news is that not everyone likes the same thing, others like the Inc, D2, and X more. It all comes down to personal preference in the end, get what YOU like, not what everyone else tells you to get!

In the short term of things, you'd probably enjoy the Incredible more, since you aren't intending to root. This is namely because w/o root you'll have to semi de-bing the Fascinate, deal with a sluggish interface at times (lag fix needed), and potentially have some bad GPS issues (some fixes available, but they require root). HOWEVER.. 2.2 isn't too far off, and once the Fascinate gets that, it'll fly w/o the need of root. Since a phone is a longterm investment for most, you'll most likely be much happier going with the Fascinate. If you choose the Incredible, you'll just end up enjoying your phone rather than loving it in a month or two :p

Like I said, don't let us make your mind up for you, it's all personal preference. Both phones are great, go with what feels better in your hand and has the features you want.

I'd still love to hear what Justin says about the two, although considering he ditched his Inc (as a primary phone at least) for the Fascinate makes me think I know what he'd suggest! :p

at xda, some are saying the galaxy s still lags with froyo and the browsing is now not as smooth (most likely from flash). i guess we will have to wait and see what froyo will do for the fascinate. i CAN tell you that froyo did NOT make games play better on the Dx....kinda weird considering how much 'faster' froyo allegedly is.

I'm still debating a little but I've been very happy with my fascinate. Really the only thing I ABSOLUTELY wish I had was sense...otherwise everything is as good or betterr than the dinc. The camera is what really set me over though. The camera is VASTLY superior. I say its on the same level as the Dx which has one of the best cameras in the industry both for still and recording. Again the biggest thing holding me back was sense...but that was VERY easily copied using adw launcher and widget locker.

I would take the froyo on the other galaxy s phones as a benchmark with a grain of salt. A lot of it is hacked together kernels and os that produces a pretty good product but is not neccesarily indicative of what the actual release froyo will be. And yes flash lags on 2.2 regardless of the phone.

Some of the froyo roms for captivate/vibrant/i9000 etc also do not have voodoo ported yet, so there is lag as they are running hacked 2.1/2.2 kernels in many cases with no voodoo from what ive read.

Froyo will not be the salvation everyone hopes for i dont think but we will see real tangible gains in stability, speed, and everyday performance especially with voodoo which should be ready for 2.2 fairly soon and out of beta and then hopefully ported for us by the great guys at xda.

@Kabob
yeah having used all of verizons "big 3" extensively i think its a testament to the fascinate that its my everyday phone. I will preface that by saying if you dont EVER at all plan to root/rom, etc then the dx is the most polished of the bunch of out of the box. That being said, screw motorola.

The dx may have 2.2 overclock now and stuff but I wouldnt go back even if i could. The htc incredible is a great little phone. I say little because you really notice the difference in screen size. To me the fascinate "looks" and plays like a bigger device and imo i can barely tell the difference in real estate between that and the dx. With the inc, it feels like a much smaller phone and i find myslef (at times) squinting to read stuff or hold the phone much closer to me.

It is however very polished at this point with dozens of roms and kernels, and despite being out for nearly 6 months at this point has a very active dev community and will for the near future.

Still a 2.1 fascinate with voodoo is just really, really fast. Ive said before, and i ll stick by it that its fast than 2.2 x is now (although i cant speak to the oc) I would say hands down that when we get froyo and 1.2 + voodoo for it it ll slay the x outright.

Also, on the gaming topic the incredible doesnt play games very well. It cannot handle baseball superstars at all without massive lag even on an aosp rom at 1.19. Stock incredibles can barely (or can they at all?) play angry birds. So take that with what you will.

Theres nothing wrong with getting an incredible and I'm jealous that my wife is using mine now or id be tinkering with it and flashing stuff now :D

But the fascinate is the way to go (as long as you use an alternate launcher besides touchwiz). And at some point YOU WILL WANT VOODOO. But hey no pressure

I'd like to know in what ways is the Fascinate camera better than the Incredible's camera. Obviously the DINC has more megapixels. Does the SF have an actual camera button or is it like the DINC's?

I'm still trying to decide which one to get as well.

Actually on paper the dinc looks far better but once you see the comparisons, the Fascinate looks significantly better...or it does to me. Both lack a physical button (unless you want to consider the trackball on the dinc one) but that hasn't hindered me in any way other than taking self portraits...which I don't do often. The video also trumps the dinc and nobody can argue that. The dinc lacks any sort of noise cancellation while the fascinate sounds awesome...no overbearing background noise. The only video on a phone that has been able to beat it is the iphone and it is neck and neck with the droid x.

Video:(click to view) fascinate. keep in mind I'm still unsure how to focus in vid mode...if you can or if it just has a hard time auto focusing...still its not bad for low light.

My horrible rendition of so far away solo. Shows the spound quality though.

i WAS talking about the official release of froyo, lol, not the custom roms and you are correct about angry birds on the incredible, though playable, it's not smooth at all. fruit ninja ran pretty well though. that game occasionally stutters heavily even on my fascinate.

Yeah, from reading further some people are reporting lag on 2.2 on the i-9000. Given that the official release (which was pulled due to issues) which was leaked doesnt change the file system this kinda makes sense. If samsung didnt rework the issues that lead to lag in 2.1 then it would still stand to reason that it would exist in 2.2.

Obviously, voodoo for 2,2 is still needed like everyone kinda figured.

Ive never played fruit ninja so i have no comparison there

For me the benchmark with gaming is baseball superstarts 2010. Doesnt sound like a baseball game would be that intense but it lagged occasionally on my 2.2 x, unplayable on my inc, and smooth as anything on my sf.

i didn't try baseball 2010 on the incredible, it ran well on my Dx 2.1, haven't reinstalled it on 2.2 though i'm finding games generally run better on my fascinate than my Dx with 2.2.....i wonder how games will perform on the fascinate running 2.2. let's hope they run BETTER, which would be pretty awesome!!!

Ooooooooooh, that is slick! Did you have to root to get that setup or is that just ADW and said locker?

Well when you put it like that I guess I'd better root/rom or go trade in for a DX... :p

@Triska. I've played with both cameras on the INC and SF and the Fascinate's camera is clearly a better camera. Megapixels don't mean crap if the lens & software are not great. The Incredible's camera for photos & video still look like they came from a camera phone. Colors are too saturated, exposure adjustment too slow. The Fascinates camera is very close in quality to the Droid X - great exposure and auto white balance and the video looks like it's from a camcorder not a "camera phone" (except for the choppiness you get from quick panning but that is common on every camera phone) Basically, the colors and quality are much better on the Fascinate over the Incredible. More megapixels have nothing to do with quality. I'd rather have a great pic at 5mp than a "camera phone" looking pic at 8mp. That's the only reason I'm considering the Fascinate over the Incredible. I love Sense (I currently have an Eris) a lot more than Touch Whiz - plus I love the HTC email widget. If I can emulate Sense on the Fascinate (which there are some 3rd party overlays that can do this) then I will finally be sold on the Fascinate.

Fascinate hands down. My buddy has an incredible, and he carries his charger in his pocket. Getting ~8 hours out of it is a struggle. I just went 38+ hours on my last charge and still had a 1/4 battery life remaining (according to the indicator). That was with a good amount of use, too.

Also, once you have a 4" screen, you can't go back to anything else.

Where did you get the clock/weather widget? Is that part of ADW? I want to to get the Fascinate but want to emulate Sense - I don't like Touch Whiz and the Samsung widgets at all. I like the HTC email widget too - nothing similar on the Fascinate. SO...Can I emulate Sense and get similar widgets?

Thanks, Watson! How does the flash compare? I currently have a Dare and while it takes great pictures for a phone, when I use the single LED flash, everything has a blue tint. I see the Dinc has a double LED flash, which I would assume takes better indoor pictures than with SF's single flash, but maybe that doesn't matter. What about the movement factor? Some cameras phones only take clear pictures while remaining completely still and others do okay with a bit of movement. I've heard that the Dinc is horrible to see in the sunlight. That makes me wonder if taking pictures outside will be difficult as you won't be able to see the screen, or is that a non-issue?

The clock is the weather and toggle widget with the "H7C" skin. Its the best looking and best performing of all the htc clocks. It costs a little bit of money (2.99 I think) but its worth it with the hundreds of skins you can use.

Woah, freaky rooster!!
nope my device is COMPLETELY unrooted. Its simply just a mixture of apps/widgets and some tinkering with settings. the big one is the dock. Its simply adw launcher with the theme two in black and blue (the dock obviously black and the highlight color is blue...samsung colors!) And its SUPER customizable(create custom short cut, choose icon, drag and drop. That dock is also available in different colors such as white with green highlights, red with black highlights and several others. Course they all cost money. After that it was just loading up the sense wallpaper and your good. I'm still trying to find good sense like widgets that are available on adw. Here are the links to everything.

Adw launcher
ADW.Launcher - Android app on AppBrain

Blue two adw theme: (needs adw in order to work)
ADW.Theme.Two (BlackBlue) - Android app on AppBrain

Weather and toggle widget
Weather & Toggle Widget - Android app on AppBrain

H7C clock (needs weather and toggle widget to use)
H7C Clock - Cyrket

All I need now is a sense icon pack(and how to install them), the htc widgets and the sense live wallpaper and I shall be happy. I hope this helped you guys out.

Oh and the lovk widget is simply widget locker. I like having my screens clean so my lock screen rarely has anything but the slider...i really just got the app because I didn't really love the stock unlock screen with the puzzle piece.
