How is the HD better than the standard Desire?

Can those who've actually got a HD tell me what, apart from the larger screen, the HD has over the standard Desire?

More updated processor, larger screen, android 2.2 out of box, more ram, higher mp camera..Just off the top of my head.

a 2 second boot up is amazing for one. all the vids i have seen show the dhd as a better handset just faster in every way really.

Mine takes a lil longer to boot..but then again, I've filled the included 8gb card and the flash memory on the phone is full with my apps...my fault, but I can live :)

Thanks Spencer, but as I said in my OP, and to karnka, I know what the specs are. What I want to know is how it compares to the Desire in use. A lot of how it feels - how good it seems - is how it behaves. For example, I've just upgraded my laptop to one with amazingly good specs, but, so far (without going into detail) it just doesn't feel so user friendly as my old one.

A good example of what I'm looking for is something like boot up times: that's not mentioned in writing, but having seen it in that video - I'm impressed. That sort of thing. What you feel about it.

cant wait to switch my Desire for the Desire HD! honestly DHD makes standard desire look poor.

I wouldn't say that at all as its down to preferance of the user. People need ot understand this.

im guessing that must really be saying something as ive just got the standard desire an im really loving it

Also take into consideration that Desire won T3 Award for phone of the year

I have had the chance of comparing the two and although the specs are better for the Desire HD, I prefer the Desire. The screen when watching movies and just day to day use looks more vibrant on my desire. The blacks especially. The camera on the desire deals with lighting better in an office anyway. I have actually managed to talk the owner of the HD to take it back and get a desire :0/ Although boot up was impressive, but I don't ever switch my phone off so don't really care about it. Anyone got any veiws on the video of the HD?

I had a desire and think the DHD screen is actually better. Its quicker to respond when watching sky tv through my sling too, wifi or 3g. Clarity is superior imho. I ran both side by side on my table and decided the HD was for me. Bigger buttons was a big + tho.

Love the changes made to Music player too. About time it had an EQ.

The audio effects (Dolby and SRS) are awesome for movies. The bass on Dolby is really noticable. The camera (pics and 720p video) is great for such a small device. Noticably sharper images but the videos are still slightly jerky in 720p recording but that could be a light issue.

Other than that, a Quadrant score of 1664 on an out-of-the-box DHD makes for pretty impressive performance in my book. I had to root my old Desire just to get it above 1000.

Personally I like them both and just to balance them both out here are a couple of things I have noticed:I often take pictures of my wife and I when we visit places (not wanting to hand such expensive kit to a stranger) now with the desire and my n95 before it, I could take killer and well positioned pictures, thanks to the physical buttons straight off. Now with the DHD being an on screen button it can take a couple of attempts and lots of arm, t-shirt shots need to be deleted. So the original Desire wins on that account.

Another button issue I have with the DHD is the power switch not sitting flush with the case and facing forward which is more awkward over the original Desire.

Another thing I love about my original Desire is the light weight feel of it, however I also love the chunky feel of my DHD and the casing styling is a lot more stylish IMO.The Desire AMOLED screen is a lot more exciting and stunning to look at for me but then the display on the DHD is more crisp and refined as far as colour saturation is concerned as mentioned.

But here is the killer for me, the SRS WOW and Dolby on the DHD batters the Desire for entertainment value, the updated Sense is just so much slicker, the increased physical memory removes the need for my to be managing apps every other install and again the perceived style and build quality of the DHD is just classy.

Now I say perceived due to the fact I am yet to drop it onto a hard floor. My Desire has been dropped a few times had the battery cover fly off and the battery fall out, yet the screen is intact the battery cover clips have not failed there are still no squeeks and no loss of haptic feedback and the unit is still solid with no screen cracks. I do however think that the DHD would fail where the original succeeded.

But come to the crux of it I am still selling my original Desire because of its plasticky styling and I wanna look cool. So yeah my DHD makes me feel cool lol

Ok I have dropped my DHD three times onto a cement floor. It survived without a scratch. This was from about 2 meters each time.

Cheers, Bentree.
