Why did you choose your phone over others?

When I bought the phone in June, it was between the Evo, the incredible, or the Droid. Didn't like the lower proc specs on the droid, and didn't want a keyboard (and at that point the Droid was 1.5 generations obslete). Coming from the Behold 2 (POS phone that I'm glad to be rid of, especially for the $220 I sold it for :) ) I really like the AMOLED screen, and the slim formfactor, with a large screen. And the Evo would have cost $50 more upfront (Best Buy price matched the lower price that Sears was selling them for (online, didn't tell them that part:)), plus another $8 or so a month, after the "premium data plan" addon sprint charges on 4g phones, and the difference in my corporate/employee discount between Sprint and Verizon (And honestly I was more than a little put off at being charged $240 (over the life of the contract) to pay for a service I more that likely would never be able to use for the 2 years I'd have the phone).

^+1 Having said that, I'm actually glad that they didn't. I have tried vanilla and I really like Sense better. Getting the newest Android OS first wouldn't be a bad thing, but with a rooted Incredible, we aren't far behind. I remember wondering when exactly Spring 2010 began, because as you know, in spring 2010 Verizon is getting the Nexus One. Sometimes spring never comes.

Not to mention the N1 has a few bugs that HTC fixed with the Incredible. The multitouch screen, the 3g connectivity issue, etc.

Originally just because I had to go with Verizon or pay a ton more, (family plan) and the only choices for android that were top end were the droid and the inc. Originally got the droid because I felt id need a real KB. Got swype on it and never slid it open again, couple days later traded it in for a Dinc and have been happy ever "sense" :p

It had been 2 years, my contract was up and I decided it was time for my Env2 to go. I originally was looking at getting a dumbphone but was just looking at the smartphone page for grins one day and happened upon the Incredible. I read the stats for it and my jaw hit the floor. I didn't know that that kind of processing power could fit into a phone. I saw it was running Android. I had heard a lot about Android and decided to read up on it some. The combo of Android and Sense sounded awesome. Lets just say that after I did some reading, there was no way I was getting a dumbphone. The size of the phone was also perfect. A 4.3" screen is just too big for me, I like my phone to fit in my pocket. But at the time I got my Inc. the only 4.3 phone on the market was the EVO. So I ordered my Inc., waited about a month for it because of the backorder, and got my phone at the end of July. Been happy since day 1.

I chose DINC for form factor and snappiness. No other phone responds as well as the DINC.

However, these areas need work:
- Cam Quality
- Battery
- Graphics processor for 3D (I like my games)

I think the X has them beat in all 3 of these areas. Were I to do it all over, I might have done the X. But the thing is huge and I like Sense much better than Blur.

This was my first smartphone so here are a few of the things that appealed to me.

Android OS
Full Touch Screen
8MP Camera
Form Factor of the phone
AMOLED screen

All of this.

But the BIGGEST reason is simply that I didn't get the phone at release, instead waiting for others to get it, try it out and review it online. I also never buy electronics at release because I like to see how it works out in the real world. Just because something looks nice on paper (pretty pictures and good spec's) doesn't mean that it will be any good. I waited until mid-June and after reading mostly good reviews I went for it.

My choices were limited because I love Verizon and will not leave them. At the time Droid X and Droid 2 were simply rumor's and there wasn't anything else out that interested me.

I will say even after seeing the newer phones that have since come out, including the fascinate, I am still VERY happy with my decision and wouldn't change it.

I will contrast this.

I got mine on preorder. It was delivered the day it came out, and mine was rooted the day that method came out. I have always been an all out nerd and early adopter (when money allows). When it came out, the DINC was the best smartphone on VZW. It was very possibly the (if not one of the) best smartphones anywhere. IMHO, it still is. The specs are great, it is well built, and it is fast (the dx is technically superior with the better gpu, but it still has lag problems).

Another reason is root. And I mean real I can do what the heck I want root, not just su permissions. The dx is locked, and that would rule it out instantly for me. Because even if you say you will not root, there is no reason to not have the decision. Also, ninjablur is better than motoblur but still ugly IMO.

It really is. My in-laws both got the DX and I was helping them get the phones set up. I was completely unimpressed with the UI. I say this not as an HTC fanboy, because I am fully willing to give praise where praise is due, but whatever UI is on the DX is clunky and ugly.

This shouldn't be a deal breaker, however, since there always is LP+ and ADW. But if you want to stick with stock, Sense is far, far superior to any of the Blurs.

Hi what is LP+ and ADW?

LP = Launcher Pro.. not sure what ADW is

ADW is another launcher: ADW Things

I prefer LP+, but ADW is pretty cool too.

If you aren't familiar with either, they basically are replacements for Sense and allow you to completely customize your home screens. LP+ is great because you can choose how many screens you want, which one is the default screen, it has a rotating dock, gestures for the dock, resizing widgets, and the list goes on and on and on.

Just note you can't use HTC widgets with these launchers so you need to find replacements (LP+ comes with a few great ones). I use Beautiful Widgets and QuickSearch.

I pre-ordered it because of the stats, and because I LOVE HTC. I had a POS HTC Imagio (Windows Mobile was horrible but I loved sense.) I am one of the lucky ones who has had a flawless phone. I don't have battery trouble or any of the little bugs people have reported. It is the perfect size for me, the AMOLED screen is a major WOW factor. This might just be the only phone I don't ditch a year after I get it and I can renew my contract. I LOVE this thing. Plus, being able to ssh into my servers and work on them from my phone is an awesome + for me. I knew that android phones were super customizable and I am a linux fan. Oh, and because the whole google sync contacts/calendar was another plus. It has replaced my MP3 player, my GPS in my car and I can stream football games on Sunday and Thursday nights if I am stuck at work!

I LOVE this phone! Nothing on the market now or anything I have seen coming up would make me leave it. You would have to pry my cold, dead, hand from it first!
