Help Free hotspot

Has anyone figured out hoe to do a work around for free hot spot wifi without rooting your Droid X. I have tried several things but to no avail. Not trying to be a cheap skate but I will probably only use the hotspot rarely and since I have 5 phones (family) and pay Big Red $225 a month already I would like to have this as a feebee.

You mean want to give your computers internet access from your phone, right? It's called tethering and there are many ways to do it - if you do a search for it here you'll find lots of ways!

I haven't done that, since I have mine rooted.

Well I did use that thread to tether to my phone but all I got was the Verizon website. However I would rather have hotspot capability. I know I need to root to do this but even the OneClick method scares the hell out of me.

here's another way from droid x forum from soundQcar:

Connect to the 3G Hotpost app and wait for it to connect up, then use your phone dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#*

This will then kick you into a new screen. Scroll all the way down and toggle 'on' the radio icon, then back off again.

Your DX is now a 3g hotspot.

not flaming. you can do whatever you want with your phone. but i think it's silly to justify it by saying you have 5 phones, and are paying $225. that's 5 people, only paying $45/month. that isnt exactly a lot of money.

there are businesses that have 5-figure bills every month, and they dont get the hotspot for free.

however, try PDAnet. you can tether for free with that app if you dont wanna toggle the radio every time you want to connect.

Yes! I have found a way! You simply go into
settings>wireless and networks>Mobile Networks>Acess Point Names
then press menu>Add new APN
Fill information out as the following (Case Sensitive)

Name: Wi-Fi

APN: wap.cingular

Proxy: wireless.cingular.com

Port: 80

Uname: WAP@CINGULAR.COM

Pw:CINGULAR1

MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0

MCC: 310

MNC: 410

Now when your done with that you press your menu button again and "Save" then you will go back you will see that MEdia Net has the green Dot, you need to click on "Wi-Fi" the one you just created. After that just go back to your home screen, Reset your phone and now Wifi Hotspot works for free!

Hi. None of those options exist in my mobile networks menu. Just system select. No way to set up APN's. I wonder why we have different menus.
