my dad has an iphone4 and ive tried it out a few times,it is a smart device but i dont like the fact you cant bluetooth anything with it(pics etc)and if you hold it in your left hand it does actually loose signal, but the main thing is,my dad likes it.itunes is a pain in the arse though, why the hell does everything have to go through that.

So, effectively, the i4 is for righties ?????...

Have fun having virtualy no control over what you can do with your phone.
Have fun spending a fortune on filling ole Steve Jobs pockets. Just so he can tell you WHAT you must do with your phone.

I remember going into the Vodafone shop to look at the Desire. Then a guy comes in with an iphone that he had had for only two weeks. Thing had conked out on him. I could hardly keep my face straight.

We call iphones Clit phones here. Cause every c**t has one.

You couldn't pay me to own one of those pieces of crap.

HTC, and Android all the way for me.

Andy

i LITERALLY LAUGHED OUT LOUD ON THAT ONE !!!!!!!

:p

I'm a leftie but for some reason I use the phone in my right hand all the time.

As for the antenna problem, Steve Jobs didn't say "we'll look for a solution to fix this", he goes and calls out other brands and says "look everybody, Apple isn't the only one with antenna problems" and almost every other brand responded with disgust within a day, and MANY youtube videos popped up proving Jobs being wrong. What a complete douche Jobs is, and he still is with that piece of comment earlier last week.

At the end of the day, if we were all the same life would be boring. Don't think theres really any need for sarcasm just because the guy has a need that is better met by an IP4.

If it turns out it isn't the right phone, you'll be welcomed back - at least by me :D

I'm personally waiting for my HD to arrive at 1.35 today !

What's your verdict so far on the HD then?

Assuming it arrived that is...

I will never use anything that needs itunes. I'm sure it works fine for lots of people, but for me it has always been a disaster - I hate it with a vengeance. I have a ton of music and video (video all in .avi format), and with the Desire, I have no need to convert and can play straight from SD using Rockplayer. mp3s I can just drag and drop, with my own damn folder structure, and no screwing about with iTunes updates that crash halfway through, lock up the damn phone etc etc. Never again, never. The playback of .avi video really is the kicker for me though. (Love my Google Satnav too) Not an iphone hater (Just an iTunes hater), in fact I quite like it, but the Desire just ticks more boxes for me.

What on earth is the deal with all the iPhone 4 hate?

The Desire is an amazing phone. Shame about the battery life and the camera but hey, it's amazing - not perfect - right?

The iPhone 4 is an amazing phone. Shame about the bluetooth and the easily solvable antenna issue but hey, it's amazing - not perfect - right? Well, it seems not.

Lets review the points shall we?

1) You can't make calls. (Haha. Yes you can).
2) You can't bluetooth files. (Annoyingly true).
3) iPhones were crap "back in the day". (Irrelevant).
4) It requires jailbreaking to do "half the stuff the Desire does" (No it doesn't).
5) My old iPhone broke (So what? Almost all of my old phones have broken).
6) You have no control over an iPhone (for most users this is not relevant BUT it is to geeky tech-tinkerers. Whatever floats your boat).
7) Steve Jobs will tell you what to do with your phone (......)
8) It's a piece of crap (moronic)
9) Battery life is crap (it's better than the Desire)

Anyone out there with an explanation for all this bulls#!t?

Are you posting on here with your new Iphone4?

Nope. Using my macbook pro (I suppose that that is a pile of crapple too, right?)

I did post before that I didn't end up getting the iPhone 4. I simply couldn't part with the money in the end (much to my dismay).

I'm going to check out the Desire HD's image and video capture (these features are simply arse on the original Desire) and I may go with that.

Not sure.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but I don't accept the Desire's photo capabilities are "arse", it takes perfectly good photo's. I'll grant you that HD video capture doesn't work too well, but at the default setting it's fine. It is after all a phone! I have a proper camera for photo's and HD video and anyone thinking a phone is going to rival dedicated kit is deluded.

Techradar's review of the HD has left me feeling far less envious than I was before I read it; I'm happy to stick with my Desire.

I'm all for people trying out different kit, but when they start to slag something off in order to convince themselves their new bit of kit is so much better, it's a bit overboard. The Desire has proved itself to be one of the best smartphones on the planet; it's not perfect, but neither are any of its rivals.

For my purposes the Desire delivers the goods and then some.

Nope. Not by current standards. My N95 8GB and N86 took far better pictures. Years ago.

You should work in PR. HD video capture on the Desire is a disaster.

anyone thinking a phone is going to rival dedicated kit is deluded.

Anyone thinking that the Desire is in the running with current hardware across manufacturers at the same price point is deluded. Multimedia capture on the Desire is a joke.

I'm all for people trying out different kit, but when they start to slag something off in order to convince themselves their new bit of kit is so much better, it's a bit overboard.

As mentioned (twice) I've stuck with the Desire. In fact I'm sat at my desk looking at the fact I have 18% of the battery left after less than 12 hours since unplugging it this morning (10hrs 12 mins). The Desire needs slagging off. It's a bit overboard to defend a phone you own simply in order to convince yourself it was worth the purchase, no?

See how they're slagging off the Desire HD on that forum? And how you re-evaluated your desire (hoho) to want one? These phones need people to be objective about them for the benefit of prospective users.

Yes, the Desire is a great phone. With some major flaws.

The Desire has proved itself to be one of the best smartphones on the planet; it's not perfect, but neither are any of its rivals.

As has been said earlier. The iPhone4 is also one of the best smartphones on the planet.
:D

Troll, troll, troll in the dungeon.

1) You can't make calls. (Haha. Yes you can).

Unless you're "holding it wrong" and don't have ugly rubber on the phone.

4) It requires jailbreaking to do "half the stuff the Desire does" (No it doesn't).

Yes, it does. Care to access the file system without jailbreaking? Ah yes, that's right: you can't. Want to replace the default launcher without jailbreaking? Oh look at that, no go. Install apps that don't come from app store? Run emulators? Mmm-hmm. I'm not even trying. It doesn't even run Youtube very well, while we're at it. You'll wish you had Flash just to watch youtube in browser, because the native app stinks.

i'm sure the OP expected some criticism when he announced that the Desire was not for him. especially seeing as he posted in the Desire forum.

as a Desire owner and user, he's entitled to his opinion and i, for one, welcome his thoughts and opinion even if they differ from my own.

but please people, comments like "he's getting on my tits" and "you're not clever enough to use a smartphone" are a bit out of order. please try to keep this thread at a respectable level.

the iPhone is not for eveyone but neither is the Desire.
