HTC Knight Competition for Epic?

i've read it's the HTC Desire Z, which is the t-mob G2. so it's not a direct competition to the Epic because it has smaller screen and processor. it's a great device, though.

yes... its cpu speed is 800 scorpion (not snapdragon) vs Epics 1000 hummingbird.

but... i saw some speed tests... and the new cpu design of the G2.. out performs the EPIC.

also.. it being a slower clock speed .. should help with heat and battery consumption.

Megahertz does not determine how good a CPU will perform entirely, just like megapixels don't fully determine how good a camera will be. I would consider it over my EPIC if it launched with Gingerbread, or at least Froyo and upgradeable to Gingerbread (Samsung needs to uprgade the EPIC to Froyo before this launches). I would like to see a Super LCD dislay with a pixel density of 640x960, and a full QWERTY keyboard, and of course, the Sense UI. Also needs to be 4G with dual cameras.

will never do as epic competition as long as it has no dedicated row for numbers.
I will never by another keyboard phone that skimps in that way.

understandable & agree with u but maybe this device's keyboard dont miss inputs which is a major problem plaguing many epics. i use my device for 99.99% of my browsing, email & obviously texting and its been an issue on all 5 epics ive had. id give up a row of keys for a phone that performs like the epic or better

How about better layout, truer to a real keyboard. Better spacing, bigger keys. Not messed up like the epic's keyboard. Even the lower end Transform has a better keyboard than the Epic.

This is a matter of opinion, not fact. I've seen many that say they prefer the Epic keyboard while I've seen may say they prefer the g2. What is consistat is that most people gave high praises to both keyboards. Me personally, I love the epic keyboard (typing this post using it now)

It is opinion as is mosler's comment about a lack of a number row making it inferior. And outside of the keys themselves there has never been a review praising the "layout" of the Epic's keyboard. I'd cite references but it's a pain to do it from the phone. And the skipping of letters is a royal PITA on the Epic. Had to add three letters into this little paragraph because of the issue.

And I highly doubt you've seen many that prefer the Epic's keyboard to the G2. It's been out for how long? And how many Epic owners are heading over to tmob to check it out? Besides, most people will pick something they're used to over something new. That's just human nature.

The G2 has been out for about a month which is plenty of time. I too don't have much time to quote all the references I was talking about but I'll name a few reviews of the keyboards I can think of though. Smartphoneenvy and pcmag both prefer the epic keyboard over the g2 (gonna sue them lol?). Droiddog and phonedog, I know prefers the G2. These are only a few examples and don't even include comments from users.

Not sure what you were talking about with skipping letters though?? (Not saying you are wrong or anything, just didn't know exactly what you are talking about).

I'll take droid dogs main comment, "if the Epic's keyboard were staggered". If you're a hunt and peck person, you won't notice it, and you'll appreciate the number row. If you are a touch typist you'll most likely prefer the G2's keyboard. And if you're used to thumb boards, having the numbers accessible via the function key is pretty much second nature.

It really does come down to preference and the biggest negative on the Epic in the layout is the doubling up of the main four buttons (menu, back, home, find). If the Epic laser engraved them on the glass or kept them lit when the screen was on, you would've had the room to create a typical staggered qwerty layout and truly made it the best keyboard out there. Could've made the cursor keys sit in the proper spot. And they could've taken a cue from the G2 and made that stupid smiley key (this is a business oriented device, right?) a programmable one. Heck, they still could make it programmable if they were smart. I'm sure a quick poll would reveal the vast majority have only used the key when hitting it by accident. It's a decent keyboard that could've been great.

And the letter skipping when typing is mentioned in this thread. It's a bit of an issue.

Like you said, at the end of the day, its all about personal preference. Obviously everyoneis not going to like the epic or g2 keyboards for various reasons. Some don't like keyboards at all lol. I'm just glad to see more good ones being made by android as of late. (G2, epic, transform, Merge). And hey, just be happy we don't have the flush droid keyboard LOL!
