Questions with my new HTC incredible

Hello everyone, great to have a fourm here to help, I have two questions for you all:

!st is what is the little red guy in the upper left of my home page? Just appeared yesterday.

2nd. I am going to Cambodia for two weeks and I hear that Verizon will not work with Skype there, would anyone know if thats true and how would I call home if it is?
