Motorola Droid Terminator

This is the phone that many of us have been holding out for. I've had my upgrade available to me since Feb. but I've been holding out for this phone.

But I'm not sure Motorola will ever duplicate the kind of support that was available with Droid 1, only time will tell though. I think the Droid 1 is the exception to the rule. Unless Google steps in and demands it, I don't ever imagine seeing a phone that will be as open and easy as the Droid 1.

With that said, I'm hoping I get a job soon. Not so I can buy a ring for my GF, not so I can keep my car and not have to sell it, and not so I can go on vacation. I just want this phone!

BTW: Where did the name Droid Terminator come from? That better not be the actual name, I'd rather stick with "Superphone". You can't just go taking names from great movies and combining them. It sounds like the bastardized child of R2D2 and The Terminator.

The name came from the processor, the Tegra2, which became the T2, which led to the phone being 'nicknamed' The Terminator. Its only a nickname, its not official. Although, I'm not against The Terminator either lol. Or the T2. Other than the fact that its a bad omen and this phone may be the beginning of the end of the human existence once it becomes self-aware, I kinda like the nickname :D

My biggest concern regarding this powerhouse will be the battery. With all that power, its gonna need some serious juice!

hmm.. I am sure they would raise data prices for 4G I guess, but not wonder why when I think about it.

Does it being faster mean you will use it more? not me. I would use no more 4G than I use 3G.. I dont plan to do more than I do now, it would just be faster. So yeah, they will likely want us to pay more to cover the cost of that speed, but part of me wonders if they should as 4g does not mean I will use more than 3G so if I have unlimited at $30 now, why would I not get it under 4G? but hey, I am logical, they are money driven.

I'm not home right now or I would post info I have read about the 4g pricing. From what I have gathered 4g is supposed to be tiered. I think I linked to an article about this on this site some time ago ( or droid forums). It was an interview with a higher up in verizon stating the option for unlimited 3g would remain but 4g would be tiered. If this is so I hope they continue to make viable phones for 3g.

the tiered data plan doesn't scare anybody? that is my only concern with 4g lte phones. i love my unlimited 3g! i often reach4 to 5 gigs a month.

I'm not gonna worry about it. I use about the same amount of data as you do, and I'm gonna let it rip when I get LTE. I'm not gonna get a phone like that and then put limits on my usage. Might as well keep what I've got if I'm gonna do that. Naw... I say screw the price... I'm gonna use the HELL out of my LTE phone!!

Looks cool, but honestly I'm still super happy with my Droid so I'm in no rush to get something new. I'm due for my "New Every 2" next August though so by then I probably will be ready for something more up-to-date.

For my purposes I only wish the Droid had a bit more RAM. A faster processor would be nice, but with an overclock kernel I very rarely encounter sluggishness. All that said there isn't a device currently on the market that I'd prefer over my D1.

+1

So far I haven't seen anything out there, even with the rumors, that would make me as happy as my D1. Given how customizable the D1 is, and how many good ROMs are out there, I can't see changing even after my 2 years is up. Hardware this flexible isn't something to be given up lightly.

This is the reason I will not be interested in LTE. I was at first with the speed increases and such but after seeing all carriers go to a tiered data plan I will sit on the fence and see what happens. I stream audio pretty much all day long M-F and sometimes on the weekend so an unlimited plan is essential to me at this point...

Finally, Tegra gets some love. Though I'm still waiting for the no-brainer: A 4.3" or larger device with a keyboard. Who the hell hasn't realized how great this would be yet?

Yep. They're finally moving to a faster standard and they choose to cap our usage. If anything, couldn't they do what T-Mo is doing and throttle bandwidth after a certain amount of use?
