If you own a G1, chances are that the sub-par battery of your Android Phone are among your top complaints. Many would say “sub-par” is being generous. Hold your criticizing horses there just a second because T-Mobile might be planning to bail you out. There has been no formal announcement from T-Mobile on the topic but [...]

I called T-Mobile via 611 a few days ago to inquire if the free battery upgrade was going to happen and was transferred to Blackberry/PDA support. The rep I spoke with did confirm that the manufacturer (HTC?) will be sending out a more powerful battery for free to T-Mobile's G1 customers. She did not have a target date for the shipment.

In the meantime, T-Mobile is sending me a new, regular battery. Santa did bring me a docking station with the ability to charge an extra battery, so this is a very welcome addition. Last night I was at a lengthy concert with no ability to recharge. I was not using the phone for photos or "fun" stuff and eventually just shut it off in case I needed to make a phone call later.

I rarely turn on GPS or Blutooth. I am looking forward to the stronger battery.

I hope this is true, and for those that keep asking, we probably won't get confirmation until there's an announcement, so keep looking online. Or, we'll get a confirmation when they start shipping them.

For Christmas we used the GPS to nav our way to my folks house, I don't drive so I don't really know the way, just the address, and the maps + GPS was so useful, especially when we got pulled over with no taillights and had to find a gas station and then find our way back onto the highway in the middle of nowhere. Course, with a two hour drive and GPS on the whole time, the battery was in the yellow by the time we got to my folks. I'm thinking that even with a new battery, a car charger would probably be a wise investment for these road trips.

I could not imagine running out of juice ... Combo battery/AC Charger, spare battery, USB-Cradle-Charger, and an emergency recharge unit (precharged and ready to recharge phone if no power is Available) A bit of over kill ? Yes ... but still need a hand-crank charger and a solar recharger :D Have even thought of making my own Dual-Battery Pack

T-mobile sent me and my wife batteries and strangly enough they seem much better.......but nice to have an extra battery anyway and what great pr if they do send out a better one . That type of thing goes a long way

Yes, especially when CNN is calling the G1 one of the bigger flops of the year. I think (or hope at least) google is savvy enough to want to do what it can to protect and improve the reputation of the G1, since it's the first device. If they had released 10 devices at once, they might not care so long as the other 9 are good. But this is the "ambassador" of Android until other devices actually go to market, so I have a feeling they want this baby to shine.
