Uptime Length: 1.75 days (1 day 19 hours to be exact)
Accellerator: Off
3G Or 2G: 3G
Wireless On: Yes
GPS On: Off
Automatic Brightness: Off

Misc: Turned off animations, 30 mins of calls and qiute a few texts..Gmail also sending and recieveing email

Thanks for the updates, very handy. :)

So an improvement in battery life, even with more stuff switched on? Sounds a bit more promising than the dire battery life issues of others. :s I hope the battery life really does even out to a decent level after time, otherwise, as someone else mentioned, there's not much point having such a nice phone if you have to strip it of all its functions to keep it functioning for any length of time. =/

I've seen a few people talk about fully charging and draining the battery a few times before actually using the phone, which can give you better battery life. Is this actually true? If so, what's the exact procedure for doing it?

Hope I'm alright asking in this thread but I figured it was probably better than creating yet another battery thread.

I'm still waiting for my DHD but a couple of questions about the battery...

I currently use an iPhone 3G with Wifi, bluetooth, 3G and push email left on. Last all day and it goes on charge when I go to bed.

Am I likely to get the same usage from the DHD? Or will it only last a few hours with all those things left on?

You'll get the same use and a lot more, I made the same move. Enjoy it!

Day 1 8.5 hrs

Day 2 12 hours at least - still had 20% remaining when I charged it.

This is with facebook off - dont use it.
GPS off.
Auto brightness was set to on!!!! Even though I set it to off on day 1! Its now off again set at 50%. The DHD screen is brighter than the desire screen anyway IMHO.
Wifi on (using Y5 Saver) for about 5 hrs (connected at home).
3g used regulaly through the day to check emails ebay etc
Weather updates set to update every 8 hrs
Emails checked every hour set to auto.
Other updates are by request only. I sit behind a PC all day so waste of resource on phone and dont need to know breaking news as it happens!
Send about 20 texts per day.
BT off except for short trip back home in evening.
Live wallpaper off and using the black background.

I'm pretty happy so far - except the occassional lag discussed elsewhere

Oops I'll add to the battery thread

Sorry. just me being thick here. But what's the 'accelerator'?

Ta

Dave

The auto rotate screen thing..

Great updates spencer, looking for everyone's stats here.

The idea is to find out what people are doing so then I can see where battery drain comes from. It's all good and well people slandering the battery, but we need to see what activities are being done :)

Thats pretty impressive then, would you say your battery is improving by the day?
If you turn the accelerator off how do you get the screen to rotate if you want it to, surely it cant take up that much battery?

Cant wait to get mine, will be my first android phone, hopefully the battery isnt to bad, seems such a shame that a phone this good seems to be so limited because of the battery

Try not to drain your battery fully too oftern as you will strain the battery (as mentioned in the site below)

This site The care and feeding of Li-Ion batteries | User Support | TechRepublic.com contains some good lithium-ion battery care guidelines, it is written in the style that it would be a laptop, but as the DHD also has a li-ion battery all the same principals apply.

As for the charge cycle procedure, i only see mixed results

Ps i clicked the unhappy face by accident, im new and dont know how to remove it from the title :(

can a air brain lady ask when i looked at the battery it said display is taking 83% is this normal or not if not how to cut down first android phone. thanks

Theres an awful lot you can cut down on, its the way how you want your phone to be.

I'd turn auto rotate off, I'd keep wireless switched off..keep GPS turned off, avoid live wallpapers, avoid widgets that use massess of data, try to keep send recieve of emails to about an hour a go, etc.

Won't go far wrong :)

Uptime Length: 13 hours
Accellerator (Auto Rotate) : Off
3G Or 2G: 3G
Wireless On: On
GPS On: Off
Automatic Brightness: Off

Misc: Total music playback through it..literally fell asleep with it on, woke up, down to 10% :)

Further EDIT: Send recieve data of gmail, friend stream still refreshing as was twitter and my other emails

So I receieved my phone finally and used up the battery in one day and 2 hours (if that makes sense). I had almost all on (widgets/live wallpaper/GPS/WiFi) plus I was downloading like crazy and using the browser.

I have made some changes and will try to post my findings.

Lasted all day with everything on? Im very confused about what to do. Ive cancelled my order until I can get a proper idea of the battery issue... if there is an issue.

By the sounds of it, it's the 3rd party apps causing the problems. Does this mean nobodys using Skype and BBC news? Or can you simply stop these apps from constantly requesting data and get them to update only when theyre open?

Took it off charge at about 10am yesterday and it's only just got down to 1% just now with heavy use.

All-in-all I'm very happy with the battery life of this thing.

I'll point out that despite much advice to the contrary, I DO use a Froyo Task Killer to close the apps that generally don't restart by themselves.

I have taken all the live running widgets, apps and wallpaper of the homescreen. I also use an app killer. Everytime I am to finish using my phone I just run the app killer. Takes 2 seconds.

I have my screen brightness at 40%. I am a low to medium user and can get 1.5 - 1.75 days out of my battery.

I know shutting down everything seem a bit harsh, since it's on the phone and it's supposed to be used, but I had to do the same with my other phones including my iPhone. Obviously the huge screen takes a big chunck out of battery. But still no regrets..................

Hey guys

Very interesting thread.

I'm new to the forums and don't currently own an Android handset - the Desire HD is hopefully going to be my first - but I'm reticent due to these battery issues.

One question: has the 1.32.405.3 firmware update made any difference?

I know it wasn't mentioned in the bulletin but these things are often hidden or have a knock-on effect.

I also see HTC have gone for a very similar hardware platform for their flagship win7 phone (seemingly same screen, cpu and battery capacity). I wonder if this is also dogged by the same issue or if there really is something that can be done in firmware / android to increase the battery life.

I'm also assuming, with my schoolboy physics/chemistry, that a higher capacity battery in the same physical size isn't going to be on the cards...
