Root Is UD really that good?

So i just got into the whole ROMming scene and i started with UD and loved it. Then i figured i should try others just to test the waters, like BB and Smoked Glass and they just seemed like watered down versions of UD. Am i not getting into them enough to realize the differences...?

It ran like butter on my phone for the first week or so. Then I started to notice some minor lag getting in and out of programs. A couple of days later I started missing text messages. I found myself having to reboot a couple of times each day. I cleaned all of my cache, etc etc. I dont know why the sudden lag, but I switched to LF 1.7 last night and so far it runs pretty well - no theme. The one thing I'm missing on that one is the ability to hit the menu key to get through the lock screen. Other than that it's a pretty hot ROM.

For some reason it didn't dawn on me to try switching kernels before I nuked 1.0 - anyone think that could have been the cause for the lag even though it flew in the beginning?

I think it could have been the kernel; I'm running UD 8 still since I'm still happy with it after switching kernels. Was using the Chevy lv 1.0 and it was fine at first but started slowing down. Switched to the P3 lv 1.0 and overall the phone flies though Chevy's did better with video and games. Also tried Chevy's ulv 1.0 but that sent the droid to random reboots.

Ud is great, so is LFY and Charity (not to slight any others). I bounce back and forth between them all. UD is solid, LFY has the whole package with themes and kernels and Charity just plain runs smooth fast and effecient. Really with all the good roms out there you can change the look of your phone all the time and never loose any quality. This is a good time to be a droid owner. I would not trade it for any other phone.

It's good, but Miui is better. A new (and supposedly incredible) version was just released in China, has been translated to English and is in the process of being ported over to the Droid, it should be available to download within the next 24 hours.

Miui is updated every week or two, and offers all sorts of novel features that are unseen in any other ROMs. No other ROM can claim to be updated as often or offer more groundbreaking features.

of course this is all a matter of opinion and depends on your preferences. i really like ud but i prefer lfy. i dont like constant updates i find them to be bothersome. i tried miui but it was a bit to much for me. i like my android phone to feel like an android phone not an i*hone.

I knew that was coming. I don't really understand the claims that Miui is like the iPhone, but then again, I've never had an iPhone. Is it because the icons have rounded edges? Lack of an app drawer? The functionality is 100% Android and then some, as they introduce features unseen in any other ROM.

If any ROM embodies the "open" spirit of Android, it's Miui. It turns stock Android completely on its head.

UD has been some of the best ROMs I've ever put on my Droid since I rooted in Feb. On 2.1, there was no question. On 2.2, there's been a lot of great choices, but UD had been overshadowing them.

For the better part of the month I've been using LFYv1.71 as it's simply the best ROM I've ever flashed. On my Droid (key terminology), it's the fastest and smoothest and has by far the best battery life. There's enough customizations that make it worth it.

Now, UD isn't exactly far behind. It's almost as fast, but I did experience occasional lag. Only CM can rival UD in customizations, and I think UD is better overall than CM. Battery life does take a bit of a hit, though, with so much going on in the ROM.

So the answer to your question is, yes, it really is that good. It may or may not be the most suitable ROM for your Droid and only trial and error will prove that to you. Most ROMs have a review in the OP so you can get a feel of real-world application, but I don't know if someone did the last UD.
