Power line Adapters

Anyone have any experience or recommendations with Power line Adapters? I have a few network devices in remote areas of the house that I use a wireless bridge to connect with. I would like to increase my connectivity, but wiring is not an option for me at this time.

Would I get better speeds with Power line Adapters? Would there other issues I should be aware of? Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I use 3 at home (2 x single ports, 1 x triple port) to stream media around the house. They were pretty cheap, but I'd rank them as some of the best value tech I've bought. I've not touched them since setting them up, and two have been running for 2 years without issue.

The main points are:
- speed will depend on the quality of your electrical wiring
- don't use them in multiplug adaptors / surge protectors (as TheBrit noted above)
- stick to a standard (Homeplug v1.0 or above) - in fact ideally stick to one brand.

I use 85mbps Homeplug v1.0 standardised ones made by Vesenet (also under the brand name Solwise). I use them with encryption switched on in a 60+ year old house with some fairly ropey wiring, but still get 84.5 mbps throughput. This means that my music and DVDs (iso rips) stream without any buffering / stuttering issues.

I use powerline adaptors between my router and main PC. Everything else in the house uses wifi. No problems at all. Plug them into a wall socket, not a surge protector otherwise the surge protector will filter out the data from the mains voltage.

True about the surge protectors. You can use them however if they support "Home Plug." We use APC surge protectors all the time and stream data over AC power wiring with no issues. We use them primarily for the Russound Collage whole house music systems. Quality surge suppressors should work just fine.
