I just had this idea for a thread and would like to open this topic up to the android community for discussion :D

I actually thought it would be a cool name for a website (canyouriphonedothis.com) and was hoping that it already existed, but it doesnt...
If i had the time (or even knew how to make a website) I would probably try, but that aint happenin. Anyway if anyone wants to take up this noble cause (in webpage form), please feel free.

At any rate, the idea is that people can come here (or the soon to be webpage  ) and post videos (on youtube or wherever, paste the links, imbed the video, etc.), post images, or just write about the various abilities of their android phones

while I love this idea I think what could be better and make androind seem less pompous, and arrogant could be, Can your smartphone do this. that way its not a blatent attack on apple but also win mo and palm.

Oh and to add to the list.

True multitasking and copy and paste.

True. How about a checklist with a comments column and the list could be sortable by OS? Sort of like ....

OS>>> ANDROID iOS WIN7 SYMBIAN
Multitask Y Y* N ?
Copy/Paste Y* Y N ?
....

get the picture?

Yeah, anyone can feel free to rearrange / present the substance of this thread. I just poised it against iPhone to turn more heads (and also because I have seen my fair share of iPhone propaganda and just wanted to give something back). Anyway whatever works...

And to add to the list,

wireless syncing with double twist (i-tunes replacement)

50% free app market with cheaper paid apps

greater potential/freedom/rights for the developers

multi touch dock (Launcher Pro)

15 icon scrollable dock (Launcher Pro)

But but but but.... what if they INSTALL ANDROID on an IPHONE4?

Wow, that's cool. I think its awesome that you can install andriod on an otherwise problematic, impaired and needy iPhone running an obsolete OS. If someone says "install android on an iphone" I say bravo. But at 1 hour per full battery charge I sure am happy its not my iphone. Now I realise that this article is a few months old so I am hoping that the integration has been improved since then and it is actually usable.

And to add

Google gesture search

hardware choices .. every combo under the sun...

replaceable battery

pick any carrier you want!

Yeah, actually in regards to the replaceable battery, i am really starting to appreciate how that is just as functional a feature as cameras, gps, etc. I bought a battery and charger for under 20$ and extended my usage to easily a day and half with without worrying what features I am using. This is very cool.

Also the replaceable SD could theoretically be seen as usefully, although i dont think many people would want to bother with carrying around multiple SDs for music, movies, or what have you. But then again, in theory the option is kind of nice.

be number 1 in sales. no wait, that's iphone lol

car audio has ports specifically built for your device and you don't need to hook up using the AUX. Dang, no wait, again, that's iphone isn't it.

well surely home electronics have droid hookups. no, that's iphone again.

Hahaha!!! Who could live whithout these?!?! :D

lol.... I'm sure. Just like we lived without cell phones back in the 70's, or without cars back in the 1800's.

it's all about tradeoffs on smartphones though

The '70s thing I might believe, but I doubt you were around in the 19th century, unless they finally got that time travel app working in iTunes.

How about, has a standardized charge port so I don't have to buy an all new car charger with my first smartphone.

The iPhone has us on accessories, you really can't argue that point. Just about everything under the sun can be brought with an iPhone hook up. That is one (and probably only one) advantage of having one piece of hardware. I think google could probably help out by allowing music out through the USB port (I know it doesn't work with my N1) rather then just relying on BT. I am sure there are more technical reasons for it, I just don't know them.

Port availability on third party devices is your basis? How about focusing on the product itself instead of supporting accessories?

a single platform for which developers to contend with when creating apps. oops, iPhone again [hear comes the open vs closed market argument] :p
For what it's worth, I enjoy my droid, but the one thing I can agree with on what Droid has that iphone doesn't, is a phone available to Verizon. :(

well, I was around in the 70's, but I wasn't implying I was alive for either of those. Just examples.

i dont know why we would care if our phone was #1 in sales, but good point I guess

I will definitely agree with you on the accessories, iphone and itouch are unmatched when it comes to available accessories!

however I will say most new cars have an 1/8th inch speaker jack which plugs into just about any mp3 player or android phone, which would work just as good. You wont have music controls through your car stereo of course, but I've always found them to be cumbersome anyways.

btw, if those are the only points you can come up with I think you have a lost cause here :D

In all fairness I guess if a person was accustomed to iPhones simple tunnel vision feutures and that sufficed for them, they may ligitimately not appreciate the generous freedom android provides to users. And I am really saying this with no sarcasm or anything. That being said there are tons of of people who are more than capable enough to ustilse a system like android to get a 1000 more variations of their moneys worth then you can ever get from, and you will have to forgive my insistence on this point, a novelty item iPhone.

Try importing a PDF to iPhone. Now one app allows copy paste. One has bookmarks. One scrolls smoother because it preloads future pages, etc. Subsequently you find yourself needing to open the same PDF in multiple apps. But NO! You had to load the PDF through iTunes into one PDF reader and can't access it on the SD card. If you want it available in all of them you have to plug into itunes and load the file seperatley into each app! WOW! Really? A smartphone? Please...
