Changing the statusbar color

A guy over on droid forums was able to change the notification bar color and make it transparent, and he posted instructions. Check it out.

This is one of the things that I have really been wanting. I was questioning rooting my phone.... Guess it is time to take the plunge.

UPDATE: gcroberson and I have figured out how to change the color of the statusbar. I am compiling a how-to right now. Be forewarned, though, there are a TON of steps involved. It definitely is not a quick process.

I did the transparent one. I like it, much better than the grey (it didn't go with my theme).

I got it up and running and it looks nice! Fits in much better with the Droid design than the white bar.

Had to resign into my Google and Facebook accounts though. Had to rejoin some of my contacts, but not too big a hassle.

I found one more request I can email off to the GDE dev now. His background doesn't cover the whole screen. :/

How do I know? My Transparent taskbar.

These pictures are of the same statusbar... the only thing that changed between the two sets was the default home / gde home.

To everyone else... If you are having trouble getting the commands to go through, make sure your phone is still in Debug mode.

Menu>Settings>Applications>Development>USB Debugging

Would be nice but I don't know if that is possible.

Anyway it looks good, I like the top bar being dark, but good work.

I don't think that's possible. If you find out that it is please let me or fadelight know and we can give it a shot.

wouldnt it be like adding other apps like themes and stuff into the market for downmloading, just in description say you need root access. if not is there other ways i can get ahold of the themed status bar and install it,
