Official Nexus 2 Discussion

What can I say, if google decides to sell again directly through their own webstore, I think they will see much better results this time around as well as see a growing foundation of loyal Nexus followers. Theres no question the Nexus One is a good phone. But integral to its value, at least to me, was the ability to buy it factory unlocked at a good price (compare with new iphones sold unlocked for up to $1000!!!).

Also the slow progress of the Nexus Ones sales can just as easily be attributed to the lack of advertisement behind it. I really dont see the difficulty. Sell the Nexus 2 at a lower price point through phone companies with their contract, and sell it for $500-600+ directly from Google for those that prefer that. Both will draw in their respective customers.

As far as specs I would like to see, I could happily use a 4.3 screen (although I dont think this will be done at all). But a 4" one will also be cool (more likely). Retina display would be awesome, but even still the amoled is fine by me. I expect a front facing camera is in order as well as the ability to shoot HD footage. HDMI out - very cool. And of course a better trackball replacement. Oh and better speakers, or at least ones that are facing forward or evenly located on the sides.

I wouldnt mind seeing HTC go for a second round. I havent personally had any notable issues with the build quality on the N1. Also, worst case scenario (i.e no untampered Google OS) I would probably prefer Sense UI over another option. If I remember correctly Sense UI introduced expose for the homescreens. If they have this kind of vision, they may have some other useful tricks up their sleeve.

SOOOOOOOOO disappointed that samsung is the manufacturer.

had a galaxy s phone (vibrant) for a couple of weeks. poor reception in general, death grip, design flaw in the gps which they still haven't fully fixed, bluetooth headset would constantly disconnect and reconnect, and tons of annoying software quirks like no ability to change the calendar reminder ringtone to something a human could hear. when deciding whether or not to return it or wait for samsung to fix it, i read up on the other samsung phone customers's experiences. wound up returning it because i didn't trust that samsung would fix it. i went and bought a used N1. so glad i did.

i would really prefer htc or motorola. heck, i'd take hasbro over the morons at samsung mobile. i hope the N2 is real, but they got the manufacturer wrong in the article.

If the specs are similar or better than the Mytouch 4G (T-Mo), and allowed on T-mobile's network, i am buying it. I assume they will be using the hummingbird processor. Hopefully the GPS will work perfect and the other bugs will be ironed out. Correct me if I am wrong, if google makes the phone, updates will be directly from Google so we wouldn't have to rely on samsung, right?

Well if this is there new developer phone then I would say yes. It should be running stock android which always gets the updates first (N1 and Droid got it first).
