Music Player - Folder/Album orientated?

I bought my Galaxy S to replace my Rockboxed Cowon X5L. It has 30GB of storage, my Galaxy S has 48GB of storage. It's going to hold around 250 albums. I don't have single tracks, I just have albums, and typically I'll play an entire album rather than a single track.

I've tried several music playing apps on Android and they're all awful. Not a single one of them is even halfway competent.

I want to be able to go into a music player, and browse through folders and select music to play that way. I want to be able to go into a folder and start playing a track and for the music player to continue playing all the tracks in that folder and then stop. I want next/previous track to go to the next/previous track in the folder.

The default music player is rotten, and does not work in this way at all.

Any other music player I've seen seems to be built on top of the music player or just a reskin of it. They're all shite too.

Has anyone created a music playing app that is fit for purpose? Has anyone seen one?

I've gone ahead and used it.... and it's what I was looking for :)

It's quite basic, a now playing screen could be added with album art and a progress bar etc. But it's not essential.

I can now browse to a directory and start playing an album. Perfect!

Athegn, that's my point exactly. :)

I agree tinyplayer lacks many features, but it's great for just playing one folder at a time. I don't use playlists - just keep music under Artist \ Album format

Yep, but the long and the short of it is that it does the job exactly right, and it's exactly what I was looking for.

An annoyance I do have is that I would have to appkill it to remove the icon. Any other music player (at least from memory) when you stop playback and use the back button to come out of the app then it will close.

Feedback on the app somewhere says "but it stops the phone from sleeping, and I realy like this music player, let the phone sleep, "

I don't know what this means... I've found if I use it and leave the phone alone it'll turn the display off as normal. Is that all sleep means, or is sleep something else I'm not aware of? Another comment says it doesn't support FLACs but it certainly does, at least on my phone.

Hi there.

In my opinion, best android music player is "3" or "cubed".. (free app)

My music collection is precise: artist - album (year) and of course the cover for every record.. And this little program is fantastic to scroll tru your collection..
You gotta try it out..
there are various type of visualizations mode (I'm using the WALL one)..
But you have also the CUBE of course, MORPH (similar to coveflow) and also pure TEXT..

A little demo video..

Oh, and it comes with widgets..
Best music app, hands down.

Anyone using it?

Cheers,

That's a perfect example of exactly what I don't want. If there's a spectrum with the app I want at one end, and the app that works in exactly the opposite way, then the app you suggest is at the opposite end from what I want.

You would have been better creating a new thread to ask about your application, no matter how good you find it, it's utterly useless to me and it's the opposite of what I wanted. I don't know quite why you chose to post about an app that works this way in a thread specifically asking for apps that don't work this way.
