Hey guys so i recently had bought a droid incredible but ha to return it cause i couldnt stand how bad the battery was. I went with the Droid X because i had heard that it has a much better battery life.

REcently i have been noticing that the battery isnt really that great either. Ive read articles of people getting 20-22 hours with medium to heavy use but im only getting 12-14 hours with light use. Am i doing something wrong or do i have a dud for a battery? Will getting the extended battery help me out at all? Thanks so much!

It could be a dud. But first check to see if you've got an out of control app chewing up your battery. Settings->Battery Manager->Touch for usage.

Also, everyone's usage definition is a bit different.. Light days when I'm backpaking a route where I've already run, I don't use GPS (unless needed) and since I'm in the woods I separate myself from technology but leave the phone on and keep it off airplane mode. The battery will last about 36 hours. Normal days (zero voice calls, frequent check emails, web browse 20 minutes, a game or two while i'm on the can, 10-20 text) my battery will last about 27 hours. Heavy days.... lotsa text/email, score checking, web browsing, naiviagation, GPS tracking, I get about 17 hours. Extra heavy days... watching an entire college football game on streamed on 3G (atdhe or espn3) while checking other scores, emails, texts, I get about 4.5 hours.

The battery gets better with use after multiple charge cycles. Some things to do in order to receive better battery life would be to change programs to not sync updates (Facebook, email, etc.) constantly, set the screen brightness to automatic, and make sure programs that will constantly grab gps location updates are not running or simply turn off gps when you don't need to use it.

For me, after a few charge cycles, my battery can last your 12-14 hours with rather moderate use.

nope, 12-14 doesnt mean its a dud. but, make sure to manage it. turn brightness ALL THE WAY down. turn the screen off immediately after using it. get used to the notification LED so you're not turning the screen on to see if you have texts/missed calls/emails, etc., and keep an eye on the battery manager to make sure something like GPS isnt sucking down your battery. i do those things, along with a setCPU profile, and i regularly get 36 hours with pretty heavy use (although i dont talk on my x much, i do most of that on my continuum).

and, piercing heavens... do you talk on the phone all day? i couldnt make mine die in 6 hours if i tried. i watched movies on a flight to japan a couple months ago, and i only dropped about 40% after 6 hours. although, i suppose it was in airplane mode the whole time.
