EVAC HD: Another hit from Hexage.net!

Hey all, I just found this game in the Market and I absolutely MUST share it with my fellow Android gamers! It's called EVAC HD, and its published by the peerless developers at Hexage. The best way to describe it is like Pac-Man for 2010. I'm still getting acquainted with the game, so all I can provide is my first impressions.

  • The graphics are simple yet beautiful in that typical Hexage tradition. This is probably their best game graphically.
  • The music is absolutely amazing! Really, the music alone takes this game to another level because it helps to enhance the atmosphere. The music and sound effects are very well done, probably the best I've heard on an Android game.
  • The scoring system looks pretty interesting and, of course, there are online leaderboards!

Again, these are just some of my initial impressions (not a full review) as I haven't gotten very deep into the game. It really is kinda hard to describe this game with words. Hexage has a trailer on its site if you wanna see it in action. For what its worth, there is also a non-HD version available as well. The HD version runs butter smooth on my EVO (stock 2.2, unrooted). Check it out!

UPDATED! V.2.0 ADDS 8 NEW LEVELS! Hexage once again shows why they are the best team developing for Android right now. Just a word of warning, the new levels are hard! Much harder than the previous levels because you have to rescue Cratos. Good luck!

Looks like a very colorful pacman. I dont feel like playing pacman just because it's colorful. Please correct me if the gameplay is actually somewhat unique. I might try it....

After playing the game a bit longer, this game is distinct enough to stand on its own. In Pac-Man, the object is simply to collect all the dots to clear the maze. In EVAC, you have to collect the dots to ESCAPE from the maze. The more dots you collect, the more aggressive the enemies get. Also, you can set traps for the enemies and "hide" from them as you work your way through the maze.

This game will not appeal to everyone (especially the 3D lovers among us) but it is very well-done for what it is. Just like "Radiant" is inspired by classic shooters, but is very much its own game, EVAC HD seems inspired by Pac-Man, but unique enough to stand on its own. I'm no Pac-Man fan (a little too retro for me), but I'm loving EVAC HD.

RE: Demo versions: Hexage is the only developer's games that I'll buy without a demo. All of their games are professional efforts. To me, they make some of the best phone games...

I don't like that there are two versions with different prices.
I plan on having more than one android device and want to take my games with me, different prices for different resolutions should stay and rot on iOS.

Don't hate the player! Hate the game, Dan Fury! It is what it is. This game is still one of the best games I've played on Android this year... Why not just get the low-res version and call it a day? This game ain't exactly "Reckless Racing" in the graphics department, you know?

On a totally unrelated note, you get power-ups starting on Level 4! This game is kicking some serious @$$ on my morning commute today! I am officially obsessed with this gem. Gotta beat the highest score...

Because as far as I know it is the first time someone tries to pull this stunt on Android and I better complain now, if I don't want others to follow suit. ;)

I feel ya, Dan Fury:) Keep fighting the good fight! Somebody's gotta look out for us Android gamers!

Just give the game a chance. I think you'll like it, Mr. Fury;) The screenshots in the Market don't do this game any justice... On to Level 6!

A little birdie told me that EVAC HD is going on sale soon; Also, Radiant and Totemo are getting HD makeovers in the next couple of weeks (sorry, Dan Fury)...
Great quality game. I'm having just a tad bit of trouble being precise with the on-screen control....trying to go up/down and then when halfway up/down in an area then moving to right or left (it just wants to keep going in the up/down direction until I hit a wall), but guess I'll get used to it.

That's good news about those HD makeovers. I'm glad now I waited to buy the full versions. Can't wait!

Hey Essex! I'm right behind you, 6th place. How in the world do you get past the beginning of level 13?

Trial and error... I damn near gave up on the game when I got to Level 13. There is a very specific way you have to position the first 3 crates. No deviation whatsoever. Once you figure those out, the next 5 crates are a little more forgiving. Just a little.

A sick, twisted, devious son of a gun came up with Level 13:)

A lot of patience and brain power.. I had to stop playing for awhile an i finally figured it out.

Hexage has really put together a challenging game, needing more levels soon :)

All right! I beat the game! All I can say is that EVAC HD is one of the most engaging mobile games I have ever played. I can't put my finger on why, though. Perhaps its the music and sound effects; maybe it is the "Neo-in-the-Matrix" storyline; or maybe its just the depth of the gameplay. Whatever it is, this game had me hooked from start to finish like none other. Now I'm going to go back and replay each level until I get to the 2 million mark, then I'm gonna retire:)

To all you lurkers in this thread: BUY this game! If you don't like it after about 4-5 levels (the game takes about 4 levels to get going) then uninstall it and get your refund. We need to support developers like Hexage who make original games. Everybody goes nuts when Android gets sloppy seconds from iOS *ahem Angry Birds ahem* but Hexage has been making high-quality, creative, and unique Android games since 2009. Hexage is the best at creating retro-inspired mobile games. And the word on the street is that Hexage has some more ideas baking in the oven. Nice!

Pro-tip: Multipliers are the key to getting a high score! Move quickly so that you can "lock in" your multipliers. The longer you sit still, the more your multiplier will decrease. What I try to do is get to 5 then 10 as quickly as possible. Some levels, like Level 24, yield multipliers as high as 40 (possibly higher) if you move fast enough...

... I just hope that you can eventually play a level without being interrupted by some silly message popping up on the screen.

The dialogues only pop up during the first run through a given level. After that, the dialogues are optional.

Pro-tip: Don't skip through the dialogues the first time through a level. Sometimes Cratos and Shadowbox provide helpful hints for solving the levels. Of course, you can disregard the hints and solve the levels on your own:)
