G2 - Gorilla Glass ?

I found this on Youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kwd3v4cgVc someone deliberately (and unsuccessfully) trying to scratch the glass on a G2. What do you think? Is the G2 said to use special glass? I can't find any claim of this on the web, but I am curious...

Yeah, I've tried to scratch my screen and can't way back when I first got it. It isn't gorilla brand glass, but it's the same stuff. The nexus one had this as well.

I am impressed with the video, and since I do not like screen protectors, this makes me happy. I am always careful and haven 't dropped a phone in years, but it is good to know that the glass is that strong!

I am pretty careful with my stuff too, but I'm happy to see this is as well...my wife tends to be a bit accident prone.

Its not Gorilla Glass, I talked to a Tmobile guy at the store about it. It looks pretty strong regardless though.

i have a HTC HERO... for almost a year.. at first I had screen protection.. but it felt bad..
took it off.. and wow.. it soo nice.

still looks and feels soo nice...
and I have tried to scratch it.. and have dropped it often!

guys... it is glass.... all glass is harder than most metals.
take your kitchen knife.. go to a window... try to scratch it!
i promise you .. that glass is not gorilla glass!

Yah, I don't think it's gorrilla glass but something equally good. I'm not using anything on mine. I had originally bought the screen protector for it but it was so terrible (like looking thru water) that I took it off. I do take good care of my devices but still, this is impressive. It's held up really well.

After a month with my phone I can see no screen protector will ever be needed. This glass is a feature that equals the sapphire screens originally used on the (Nokia) Vertu line, those were $8,000.00+ phones for those of you not familiar with Vertu.

Just because the screen doesn't scratch doesn't mean it's gorilla glass. There are other screen materials that do not scratch.

However, the G2's screen is not gorilla glass. The myTouch 4G and Vibrant have the exact same screen material, there is a very noticeable difference between the MT4G/Vibrant screens vs. the G2's screen.

There is a little bit of a difference on the MT4G glass and the Vibrant I believe. You can literally push the glass in (by squeezing it) on the MT4G while on the Vibrant it is impossible to do such. I'm thinking its because of the space under the glass though...

Its the same with the G2 as well, you can push it down by squeezing it as well. I think that the G2 has a different type of glass/material though...

I don't care about what it is named. I cleaned my G2 screen, now 5 weeks old, and went over it carefully with a 4X magnifier under a bright, neutral light. Not any scratches, period. I am careful with the phone, but not obsessively so. It stays in my pocket when I am out and about, although it gets exclusive use of the pocket, I am very satisfied with the screen and the glass.

I'm very careless with my G2 and have dropped it many times. No screen protector, yet so far no scratches.

I've been a Tablet PC user for years and years. Got my first one back in 2001. Anyway, my last one was bought in 2007 I believe. The glass on the screen was said to be automotive glass. I'm not sure if that means laminated glass like the windshield, or glass like the side windows. Regardless, it is phenomenally resistant to scratching. It is a WACOM tablet, so the use of a stylus is a must. So with all the dragging and clicking I've made on it through the past 3+ years, there isn't a scratch on it. I'm thinking the same type of glass is being utilized on the G2. Regardless of the brand name, it is nice that someone finally released a product that didn't need, dare I say REQUIRE, a screen protector to keep it from being destroyed in your purse or pocket.

I agree, I don't care what it is called, as long as it works. Laminated glass is not by definition treated with a coating, it is merely exactly what the name implies, glass that is made of more than one layer, (like 2 ply toilet paper.)

Only slightly OT, but I personally use a screen protector because I don't like getting smudges all over the glass. The Zagg protectors are invisible and look just like not having one on. The only downside that I could see people complaining about is that it changes the feel of the screen slightly and gives it a little more friction than just with the glass/no screen protector, but it's not like it's a hindrance to anything, just a different feel, and it doesn't take smudges like the glass does.

It is a personal choice, but I would rather clean the glass a couple of times a day than lose the tactile feel of the screen.
