Root USB Debugging Modes

What modes should USB Debugging be available? Mine is only showing the status bar icon in USB Mass Storage mode. I thought for sure I've seen it in at least Media Sync mode before. Can someone confirm that I should be seeing this in other modes? If this is the case, could the cause be my drivers? They should be up to date, but I've heard of some people having to switch modes to get them to work.

Do you have the newest Motorola drivers installed? I remember PC and Media mode not working correctly until I installed the newest drivers.

I assume these are the most current. I downloaded both to my computer, then uninstalled the current driver via the Device Manager, reconnected the phone and it automatically updated the driver. Still having the same issue. Am I doing something wrong?

You know I haven't looked in a while but I bet I only get the debugging mode icon on the status bar of the phone, when I am in sync mode.

On the drivers bit, one thing I found out when rooting my DX. Depending on what mode you set the phone too, forces your computer to load the drivers again. Every mode has a profile set on your computer (bear in mind I still use XP, so it might be different on win7) Therefore until you plug your phone in and set your phone to each mode, then it will not have a driver profile for the device.

Likewise I think (need to check again) I only get debugging mode in Windows Media Sync and PC mode. The others act differently. Like I mention in this post.

I have been cycling thru all the modes with no pop ups, so they seem to be set up correctly, but I'm only getting the debugging icon on the mass storage setting.

Ok, I did a little more investigating - I've reinstalled both Motorola drivers from their website with the same results. Here's what I'm seeing with USB Debugging selected in all modes:
PC Mode - Sync Active symbol in status bar
Windows Media Sync - Sync Active symbol in status bar
USB Mass Storage - Debugging symbol in status bar + "USB debugging connected" in notification curtain
Charge only - Debugging symbol in status bar + "USB debugging connected" in notification curtain

My only guess is that Sync Active symbol tells you that USB debugging is working because it goes away when USB Debugging is deselected. Also, when I type ADB Devices in the command prompt, it recognizes my X in all four modes when USB Debugging is connected, but won't recognize it when deselected.

Bottom line - I guess I'm good to go, I just thought I remembered seeing the Debugging symbol in the status bar for all 4 modes. I'd still be interested to know what others are seeing in the status bar/notification curtain in Media Sync or PC Mode, though.
