I looked on the forum for a string about this but couldn't find one. How do you install custom ringtones on the Captivate. I can find where to change them, I can find the ones I have an SD card, but I can't find how to get them to a place where I can use them for the phone, e-mail, etc.

Thanks. That sounds like a helpful program. But what I really need is to know how to get them in use. How do I install them?
Ringdroid lets you hear and download ring or music. Then it's a menu from wher you can choose what persona or which ring will be connected to the specific sound.
Try, test, have fun.
I discovered recently another application called Zedge.
Try it for a change, explore and share with others what you discover...

If you can see them on your phone or SD card then its just a matter of going into SMS or Email and hitting menu>settings and choosing the ringtone you wish. Each one (phone, sms, email) has its own settings tab allowing you to customize your desired alert or vibrate etc for that event. Not sure if this is what you are asking since you said you can find them but cant figure out how to get them to work on phone, email etc... If I am off track lemme know and we can try to sort it out.

Thanks BoldT.
You are on track with your answer, but I still can't find out how to install them, or put them to use.
I go to Settings>Sound and Display>Notification Ringtone and there is a list of ringtones but they are all factory ringtones. I can't see a way to search for the ones on the SD card or from any other location on the phone for that matter.
How do I get them into the list? Also, that is only for the phone. Where do I go to change the ringtone for e-mail, IM, etc.?
Thank you.
As to Ringdroid, I downloaded it and it looks like it would convert songs to ringtones. When I open it, there are a few of the songs I have on my SD card listed but not all of them. I could not see a way to search for the rest, nor was there a way that I could see to tell the phone where to use the ringtones created by it.

Hi

For email you open the email icon and then menu button, account settings - select ringtone.
For sms its the same thing, open sms icon, menu button, settings - select ringtone

Ringdroid will not find all your media. Things like Flac it will not open it only as far as I know opens mp3, wav, aac, mp4, 3gpp, amr. Make sure you hit show all media in ringdroid as well (menu>show all audio) while in the ringdroid screen.

Great! Now I know where to go to change the ringtones. Thank you.

Now for the next question, how do I get to the custom ringtones on my SD card? I thought they would need to be moved to a folder on the phone, but can not find a folder called ringtones or anything like that. Any suggestions along this line would be very much appreciated.

I don't think I am making myself understood. I have ringtones on my SD card now in a folder called Ringtones. I want to know how to get them from the folder to the phone so that I can use them.
Is there a folder on the phone somewhere that they should be dragged into? Exactly how do I get them where I can use them?
If I go to My Files, I can see and open my SD card. On it there is a folder called Ringtones. In that folder I have different ringtones that I like. I just can not get to that folder from within the area where you assign the ringtones to the individual functions, like ringer, e-mail, etc.
Thanks again.

Ok, I think I have come up on something ... It seems that the only contacts that you can change the ringtones on are the ones physically on the phone. Which brings me to the question, how does someone transfer or save contacts to the phone? As near as I can tell, all of my contacts are being pulled from either an SD card or from an online server.
