Hi dear users.i m new to this forum,
and would like to have your assistance regarding choosing a handset
between Google nexus one and HTC desire.
please help me which is the best phone to choose from and why.

The HTC desire us like the nexus one but the main difference is it uses a proprietory user I.interface called HTC sense. Yyou may like this. You can make a desire like a nexus one if you are slightly technical but AFAIK not the other way around. Never seen an n1 so no idea how good it is

My iPhone got stolen a couple weeks, and so I just bought the Desire. I wish I had spent a bit more and gone for an iPhone again.
It's beyond me why the Desire was voted phone of the year. The interface feels like it was designed by a 12 year old MySpace fan, on Jolt.
It's missing so features; lots of pretty screens, nothing to back them up.

The Nexus one is a pretty slick phone. My friend had his for a few months before jumping on the Desire bandwagon (as I did ha). The N1 has pretty well all the capabilities that the Desire does, it's just a little older.

The Desire does have more RAM (576mb) compared to the 512mb in the Nexus 1. They run on the same processor (Snapdragon 8250) making them pretty well identical in all aspects. As for hardware they're the same size (3.7inches). I suppose the biggest difference hardware wise would be the 4 Buttons on the front. The N1 is touchscreen for them whereas the Desire is actual physical buttons. I've heard that the N1 also has better "Background Noise Canceling" when making Calls. Officially though in the many reviews I've read there isn't much difference in call quality between the two. My calls have been crystal clear since I've had mine.

As for the screen I believe all N1 are/were shipped with the AMOLED screen whereas many Desires where shipped with SLCD due to shortages. Difference between those? Not much in my opinion aside from the AMOLED being a little easier to see when using the phone in bright sunlight.

Personally I'd go with the HTC Desire as the Nexus one is nearly a year old and the Desire will be supported longer from HTC and Google and will have all the perks of the 2.2 Froyo O/S.

Geez, someone asked for advice, and I gave my two cents.
Would it make things better if I said I like the idea of android, but, like some other users on this forum, I find some flaws in the HTC Sense UI?

I must say, I also thought you were a troll. You only had 4 posts and came onto a thread where someone asked about choosing between the N1 and Desire to tell everyone you love the iPhone and how crap the Desire is. It does read like typical troll behaviour, you have to admit.

If you'd been a bit more constructive in your comments, you'd have got a better reception.

Just my opinion.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I never said I "loved" my iPhone; au contraire, I thought it had a lot to be, um "desired"

Since the iPhone and this Desire were/are my only experiences with smartphones, I thought I'd chime in on their differences and why I'm not hugely crazy about the Desire.

Im not going to flame you like others because you clearly are not made for this phone.
I dont know how you can say that about the UI of the desire though, iphone doesnt have one, its just a big mash off apps in your face and the rest is rendered with pastel colour finish that seems unfinished.

i dont know how you can say myspace as if anything its the opposite.
the UI is more clean than iphone

you dont have the the ability to have a nice clean home interface on the iphone. you dont have any customisation.

I really don't want these threads to be hijacked by my opinions; I just thought it wouldn't hurt to post my opinions, but I guess not.

You're right about the customization abilities, and I do like the widgets; but IMHO I find the plethora of widgets and apps can make for a messy few pages.
But PLEASE, back to the OP!

No but here's the deal, you come off as arrogant and bashing the Desire in a Android forum.

It may be you lack of English skills, therefore I will cut you some slack.

If you have a specific Desire question, make a thread and I will answer it; I can even help you in French if that makes things easier for you!

You can use the search function and if you had, you would have found that "Silent boot" app gets rid of the start-up tone.

In France the Nexus is no longer available; I guess that means either they're coming out with a new one, or are handing the mantles over to HTC?

(Genuine question - I'm hard pressed to think of anything overly important that you can do on an iPhone that you can't do on a Desire, or vice versa for that matter).

I think the Desire is still slightly ahead of the Desire HD because of the battery performance - bigger screen on the HD but no improvements to the battery to compensate.

I missed the original Nexus One, I got interested in smartphones when the Nexus was already established and after a couple of months research my choice was between the Desire and iPhone4.

The Desire got my vote in the end, mainly because of the ability to personalise almost every last thing on the homescreens, lockscreen and individual apps. My homescreens DID look messy for the first few weeks, but 4 months later I have a fantastic handset that has just the apps and widgets that I need and use, and NOBODY in the world has a phone like mine.

I'm not bashing the iPhone - it's a great handset *if* it's features meet your needs. For me, Android ticks far more boxes.

So the Desire would be my choice. The Nexus One is still good but HTC have made some nice improvements with the Desire, which is why I would choose it over the HTC/Google phone. There are rumours of the "Nexus Two" floating around now, so maybe the OP should wait a week or 2 and see what comes up.

To the OP have had the Nexus one and now have the Desire, as for my choice I prefer the Desire, the nexus one is a good phone but the killer for me was the Trackball, I hated it and it always was in the way when putting the phone in my pocket!!! The desire has that little track pad and it is much better to use, as for the phone itself well the so called Vanilla Android was just that Plain, really nothing to it, at least with the HTC Sense it has some useful widgets like the clock and weather and I prefer that to nothing on the screen.

The Nexus one is getting harder to find the AWS Nexus with 1700/2100 3G for T-mobile U.S.A. can be purchased as a developer phone but if you need the 850/1900 3G as I do with AT&T then the only place to find it is used from E-bay.The Nexus was a rather interesting first Android for me but I messed up and rooted it and that to me was a BIG mistake, rooting to me is a complete waste of time, the so called custom rom's were nothing special and the apps for rooted phones were a waste of time again nothing that outstanding!!!! My desire is completely stock and it will stay that way!!! Since the Nexus I have had many different android phones from Sony Ericsson and Samsung, and then the Desire and nothing is as good as HTC phones to me!!

Which ever phone you choose I hope you enjoy it, they are both very fine phones to have!!!! GOOD LUCK with your phone!!!
