Help 911 calling - WTF?

Hey, I had a reason to call 911 over the weekend from my phone, and my Evo decided to let me know I was calling 911 by displaying what looked like a revolving police light on my screen and beeping loudly. WTF? Had it occurred to anyone that you might want to make a discrete 911 call?

So say something bad is going down and you are hiding and calling 911 - here comes EVO to save the day "BEEP BEEP BEEP!" Thank goodness I found this out when it wasn't an issue...

Can this be shut off? When I call 911, I want it to call as fast as possible, I don't want it launching a cute app with a flashing light.

Dang I wish I could test this without getting in trouble lol

Heading to sprint in a min maybe they can

Please ask them at the store, see what they say, and post back - the whole idea of loud warning noises is so dumb I can't even believe it was ever put in as a feature...

Does anyone ever accidentally dial 911, and need extra beeps to let them know they just did it?

As a 911 dispatcher I can understand where this feature comes from...

Our center receives 300-400 'cell hangups' a day. Basically ******s butt dialing 911 on their cell phones. They don't know they have called but we have to each one back and make sure there isn't an emergency. The tones would let you know.

I totally appreciate what you are getting at, but with a touch screen phone like the Evo, to activate the display, bring up the dialer, key 9-1-1, and then press call??? That's one talented butt! :)

If you have a security lock on your phone, there is a button at the bottom for emergency call. While I haven't tried it, I assume it calls 911, no dialing necessary. I agree, that I think this could be difficult with a butt, but not difficult if you're trying to unlock your phone and you stumble, or moreso if your kid picks up your phone. Pretty sure, that anyone with a kid around, might actually appreciate this warning feature, as it's your butt on the line if your kid calls 911.
